Obama catching up to Clinton in NY: poll
Source: Crains New York Business

Sen. Barack Obama is catching up to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s lead in a potential New York Democratic primary, according to a poll released just one day before New York and over a dozen other states cast their votes on Super Tuesday.

Ms. Clinton still leads Mr. Obama 53% to 39% in New York state, according to a poll released Monday by Quinnipiac University. But that’s compared with a lead of 51% to 25% in a poll released last month.

Eighty percent of Clinton supporters say they are “not too likely” or “not likely at all” to change their minds, while 72% of Obama backers say they are not likely to change their minds. But former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards’ withdrawal from the race last week could mean a few necessary gains for Mr. Obama.

“Sen. Obama has gained yardage in New York, but the clock is running out and Sen. Clinton still has the home field advantage,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
