Bush won't rule out bigger stimulus package

White House may agree to go above $150 billion in economic aid

President Bush won’t rule out the possibility of a larger economic stimulus package than the $150 billion program already outlined to reinvigorate the ailing economy, the White House said Tuesday.

Bush last week offered the outline of a short-term economic boost, but the slumping of the global economic market since then has raised the question about whether he’s willing to broaden the package. Word of the administration’s thinking came on the same day that the Federal Reserve announced a three-quarter percentage point cut in a key interest rate to steady the economy.

Discussing the White House’s options, press secretary Dana Perino told reporters: “I’m not going to close the door, but I’m not suggesting that anyone believes it has to be bigger” than the $150 billion figure already discussed.

3. This is a clear indication of the seriousness of the Market
Situation. For the first time I observe GWB NOT stubbornly
sticking to Conservative Bible on Economics. Did anyone
notice the GOP Candidates have now done a 180. At first
the Candidates diplomatically questioned the stimulus--this
is not in keeping with Conservative Beliefs.. By yesterday
they had pivoted. We are dealing with a serious problem here.

5. He won't rule it out
as long as his tax cuts are made permanent. This is what he is really after. He couldn't care less about the people in general.

7. Seven years of destroying the middle class
To be set right overnight with an $800 loan against next year's tax bill. Is that what getting an MBA does for a person? Helps them think up these cunning plans?

They don't look beyond two days in the future, and hope that the electorate doesn't either. The depressing thing is they're usually correct in doing so.

9. It's easy to increase the "stimulus package" when all you have is play money.
more propping up of the giant ponzi scheme.

folks, the reality is this: no matter how much money moron* "pumps in", the real issue at hand is that our manufacturing base has been decimated and there are no jobs.

If he would take this "stimulus package" and "pump it in" to research and development for alternative fuels, jobs would be created over night.

But alas, that would require, "hard work" and thinking on his* part. Both of which, he* is much dire need.

Hope you like paying 10 bucks for a gallon of milk, because more dollars equals less value and less value equals inflation.

It's not a matter of impeaching anymore, it's a matter of the nice young men in their clean white suits fitting moron* with a straight jacket.

10. I think you are right in the long term. Everyone I have talked with
will use that $800 to pay bills which will do nothing for the economy. The poster above who suggested getting out of Iraq is also right. That would do a lot to restore trust in our economy and moving in the direction you suggest will give hope. However, I do not think that *ss has any idea that this is even a possibility. He is buried in his dream world.

11. Maybe it's like the Iraq War
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 02:58 PM by Turbineguy
It started out costing $1 billion.

It's kinda hard to nail these sorts of things down. Maybe the Iraqis will give us the money for this program.
