Lockheed gets contract for launching systems
The U.S. Navy awarded a $92 million contract yesterday to Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin Corp. to deliver MK 41 Vertical Launching Systems (VLS) for three Arleigh Burke-class Aegis destroyers.

Lockheed will subcontract to United Defense of Aberdeen, S.D., to produce subassemblies for the MK 41 VLS, which is capable of launching missiles for every threat in naval warfare, including anti-air, anti-submarine, ship self-defense, land attack and missile defense.

3. Cheney's wife on Lockheed's board and Lockheed VP finance chair for
Bush selection campaign.

Cheney's wife Lynn is on Lockheed's board:

"Bush-Cheney is the arms industry's dream team. Bush tried to give Lockheed Martin a contract to run the Texas welfare system. Lockheed Martin VP Bruce Jackson, a finance chair of the Bush for President campaign, was heard to brag at a conference last year that he would be in a position to 'write the Republican platform' on defense. Under Cheney, Halliburton went from 73rd to 18th on the Pentagon's top contractors list. Cheney's wife, Lynne, serves on Lockheed Martin's board, a service for which she receives $120,000 in compensation."
