Armed man arrested near US Capitol
Fri Jan 18, 10:25 PM ET

WASHINGTON - Police arrested a man carrying a shotgun outside the Capitol Friday, authorities said. Michael S. Gorbey, 38, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Capitol Police said.

The man also was wearing a tactical vest and had a bow in his car, Terrance W. Gainer, the Senate sergeant-at-arms, told The Washington Post.

Gorbey said he was going to the Supreme Court, Gainer said.

An officer first spotted the man near Union Station, about two blocks from the Capitol. The man's vehicle had wires coming out of the glove box and propane tanks inside, Gainer said.

14. Shhh
Don't mess up a perfectly good knee-jerk reaction that totally missed the irony of the post they replied to.

It's best to just walk away quietly and leave them thinking they've zinged one home.

18. Not without
Cognitive dissonance. Seriously - I know of ZERO liberals who think they should have a say over a womb not their own.

Of course, I don't have any religious zealots as friends, either.

19. you mean "pro-life" like Pro-agonizing death.
Are you one of them "Pro-lifers" who thinks the laws in South America are "an inspiration to us all",

Do you happily ignore the cases of women screaming in agony till they die from the trauma of their fallopian tube bursting from an ectopic pregnancy?

Just asking.

20. Real liberals have confidence that women can make the right decisions for themselves.
As long as you're in that category, then I have no argument
with your position.

3. Terrance Gainer has moved up in the world.
He used to head up the Illinois State Police, then he went to DC to be their police chief. Now he's Sgt-At-Arms. A niece of mine is good friends with his daughter.

5. Man With Shotgun Near U.S. Capitol Is Utah Resident, Report Says

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A tragedy might have been averted near the United States Capitol on Friday afternoon, where a man was arrested at gunpoint while carrying a shotgun and a backpack containing a samurai sword. And it now appears that he is a Utah resident with a long criminal history.

<snip>

Following his arrest, Gorbey reportedly told authorities that he was going to the U.S. Supreme Court building where he had an appointment with Chief Justice John Roberts at 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. That appointment, however, was not officially corroborated. A witness, though, also told authorities that the suspect asked for directions to the Supreme Court Building -- which is less than a block from the Capitol.

<snip>

According to Washington, D.C. radio station WTOP, Gorbey is a Utah resident who has a wife and children living in West Virginia. However, WUSA-TV identifies his last-known address as being in Beaverdam, Virginia -- but acknowledges that it appears Gorbey has lived in many locations throughout the U.S. and has used multiple aliases.

Gorbey supposedly has a long criminal history that includes weapons charges in Utah and Virginia and was questioned by federal agents in 1994* for flying over restricted airspace at Camp David -- the president's official retreat.

WTOP also claims that in his reference to visiting the U.S. Supreme Court, Gorbey spoke of "taking care of business."

6. Some scary stuff in the news today, I think Neocons have created
an environment that they need to be very, very scared in. Mortgage bankers committing suicide, potential nut case assassins running loose in DC. Do you think that we have reached the tipping point yet?

Armed UTAH Man Arrested Near Capitol Building

If you think that terrorism is only perpetrated by Muslims, think again. There are plenty of wacko “redblooded” Americans who do stupid things. Like Michael S. Gorbey who was arrested near the Capitol Bldg carrying a shotgun and in car reportedly rigged with a propane tanks and wires according to U.S. Capitol Police. He also carried a shotgun and a backpack containing a samurai sword.

Gorby apparently has a criminal record.

<snip>

Wack jobs abound in “these here” United States. This is a reminder that the threat is not just from Islamists. Terrorists don’t all wear turbins. They don’t all drive camels. Some smoke Camels and drive pick-up trucks. Terrorists don’t all come from Arab countries, because some come from right here…even Utah (please draw no implications from the reported home state of Gorbey - that is not my intent at all)! But there are plenty of people out there like Tim McVeigh and Terry Nichols and Eric Rudolph who are somehow bent on hurting Americans and executing a terrorist act.
