Nurses Launch National 'CheneyCare' Campaign
Source: California Nurses Association

The California Nurses Association (CNA)/National Nurses Organizing Committee (NNOC) launched a national campaign today in favor of what the group has dubbed "CheneyCare" -- guaranteed, publicly-funded health care for all Americans.

The campaign was inspired by the success of the group's Iowa ads declaring that Vice President Dick Cheney "would be dead" if he did not have publicly-funded health care. A new version of the Iowa ad asking Americans to sign a petition for "CheneyCare" will run today in eight New Hampshire papers before going national in the New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today, as well as leading political blogs, on Monday.

"All Americans have the right to the quality of care that our Vice-President, President, and Congress already have," said Rose Ann DeMoro, Executive Director of CNA/NNOC and a vice-president of the AFL-CIO. "All the leading Democratic proposals fall well short of "CheneyCare," keeping insurance companies at the apex of power and allowing them to deny care that can save lives. The Republican proposals are even worse."

The ad uses recent headlines about Vice-President Dick Cheney's latest heart procedure to point out the difference between the government-funded health care that the nation's leading politicians enjoy and the precarious health care situation in which most Americans find themselves.

The ad asks readers to go to http://www.CheneyCare.org and sign a petition in support of CheneyCare for all Americans.

Medicare/Medicaid covered care hasn't improved but now they are the best covered care next to CheneyCare.

recuperating from abdominal surgeries. It was so great having them, I could ask questions about my care and they did other things like take b.p., temp., in addition to tending my incision wound. I cannot thankthem enough for their "healing hands."

39. CheneyCare is paid through an accounting intermediary
It just so happens that the government chose BlueCross to shuffle the paperwork. It could have chosen an accounting firm or any kind of firm which were experts in shuffling paperwork with no difference in the care covered.

CheneyCare has no profit margins. Hillary Care would have the chosen insurance company being the big profit maker on Wall Street because the insurance company would make the rules and deny coverage to benefit its shareholders. CheneyCare would have no shareholders.

52. Nice explanation!
Thanks for posting the link. Signed the petition and sending it to others.

My husband talked to his W-loving boss who stated something about how national healthcare was a joke. He mentioned that it was unfair to ask businesses here to compete with overseas markets where American companies had to pay insurance costs for employees and the overseas folks don't. She thought for a moment and decided it was unfair. Then he went a step further and said that "insurance" and "for-profit" should not be part of the healthcare equation. She agreed that he was right and had never thought of it that way before. And my husband is a "recovering Republican".

81. Us recovering Republicans are valuable
We understand Republicans better than those who have never been one. We can phrase arguments well, as your husband did, to slowly pry Republicans away from the party. And many of us have been schooled in the ways of Republican dirty campaigning (ex-CRs, in particular), and know more than most how to prepare for and defend against the slime.

87. That's a good point Oak.
We had some near relationship-ending arguments for awhile. Then the war started to loom and he thought it was a farce. He even marched with me in an anti-war rally before it started.

He now believes the Republican party is completely out of touch. Don't get me wrong, he doesn't like the Dems either, but he will vote for a Dem for POTUS (as long as it's not HRC), and he supports anti-war, pro-fiscal responsibility candidates. He's even voted twice now for our openly-gay Rep from WI who is really liberal. He used to be anti-choice until we started dating. Now he understands the pro-choice side of the issue and realizes that women need access to choice (however, he STRONGLY champions birth control access and education).

He helps me frame my arguments for things better and calls BS when I just start to mouth Dem talking points without a proper understanding of why I'm arguing for it.

His W-loving boss is now engaged to a Dem and I think she is starting to see our way. Between those two, maybe we'll turn her.

33. Nurses, teachers, and librarians
Three types of people you don't want to mess with. They're slow to anger and will put up with a lot of crap, but once they decide to take something or someone on, look out! Arnie found that out in California with the teachers and the nurses, and the Feds found it out when they tried to push the librarians on privacy issues. Now Shrub and Crashcart are going to get some of the same medicine.

I"m glad they're putting a fire under Democratic candidates. They're plans are Republican-lite pro-private insurance schemes. We want national, single-payer, public, FREE, guaranteed, UNIVERSAL health care...and we want to pay it through a fair, affordable contribution from every American.

Does that make it clear for the candidates in the race?

Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 05:03 PM by donkeyotay
They only change the GOP has made in government - the one they wanted to shrink until they could drown it in the bathtub - is to turn in into a privatized, crony cash cow.

They believe in the free market until the banksters need bailouts. They believe in starving the peasants, depriving them of jobs, education, health care, civil rights, and a healthy environment - not to mention a peaceful, stable world that isn't an endless hell - but these blood-sucking parasites wallow in the public trough.

Cheney's a commie. He's better watch his red ass, tho, cuz the nurses are after it. He's screwed with the wrong people.

"All the leading Democratic proposals fall well short of "CheneyCare," keeping insurance companies at the apex of power and allowing them to deny care that can save lives. The Republican proposals are even worse."

78. I use to. Aren't you proud of their efforts? I even went out to protest
Auunald with them even though I haven't been a member since 95. A nurse is always a patient advocate. Its in the genes.

77. This subject is just so dear to me. I tried to kick twice. Wish I
could. The difference is a quality life. All Americans can and should have. Not just the nations leading polititians.

I'm not sure if your post about librarians was tongue in cheek or not but, isn't that EXACTLY what we need right now? We need a group that is able to not only call out the liars but, by using references (evidence) they can prove that they did or said what they did!

I for one am thankful for thinks like youtube and DVR's (did he REALLY say THAT???)

Love the article! Just a thought, to those who say businesses having to provide insurance to employees puts them at a disadvantage, why wouldn't they be for national health care. The way I see it the burden is spread equally on all, THAT way it isn't "unfair" to employers, but "unfair?" to everyone...right?

Really though I am mostly a lurker, but thanks to everyone that posts a lot, love reading what people here have to say!

Andrew
