FALLUJAH, Iraq - An Army Apache attack helicopter was shot down Tuesday, the third downed in less than two weeks, though the crew escaped unharmed. U.S. troops reacting to attacks opened fire and killed four civilians, including a woman and a young boy, in separate incidents, witnesses said.

In the volatile town of Fallujah, north of the capital, hundreds of Iraqis protested in the streets, shouting "Bush, you coward!" after U.S. troops detained a young woman while searching for a Saddam Hussein

Two incidents in Fallujah and Baghdad were the latest in a growing number of cases of civilians being shot by U.S. soldiers.

They identified the dead as Sahar Adnan, a 33-year-old woman shot inside the home of her sister, and Ahmed Naji, 37, who was driving a car. His brother and father were seriously injured, police Capt. Taha al-Falahi said.

In Baghdad the day before, a roadside bomb went off near a U.S. checkpoint, hitting a U.S. Humvee and killing a soldier. Soliders in another Humvee started shooting, hitting a car carrying civilians, said Wijdan Abdel Wahab, a relative of the car's passengers.

"The Americans have ruined an innocent family, children and women," Abdel Wahab said, distraught and weeping at the hospital. "They didn't even bother to look back at them after shooting them."

3. thank you
for your interesting perspective, now:
does the nonconnection between SH and OBL not bother you
does the violation of internation law not bother you
do Oneils revelations not bother you
does Bush's lies and use of 9/11 not bother you
preemptive attacks do not bother you
does the fact that the biggest mass graves are in areas where bushs dad facilitated the massacre of the rebels.
you probably do, honestly my friend i disagree with you in your lust for war, and i suspect if your child or love one was a maimed carcass at the side of the road your love of it might pale just abit

5. I don't have time
to address each and every contention. But here are the first few.

.. the first battalion of the new Iraqi Army has graduated and is on active duty.

.. over 60,000 Iraqis now provide security to their fellow citizens.

And yet over 1/3 of the new Iraqi Army has already deserted after complaining about low pay. The 60,000 police are impressive, but in many parts of the country, and particularly in the Sunni Triangle, they are openly hostile to the Coalition presence. Even when they are sympathetic, they are cowed into submission by the resistance. In December, chiefs of police were executed and literally hundreds of police who were cooperating with the Americans were killed in a series of explosions in Falluja, Baghdad and elsewhere.

nearly all of Iraq's 400 courts are functioning.
.. the Iraqi judiciary is fully independent.

The judiciary is completely independent - independent on anything resembling a modern judicial system. Legal scholars from all over the world have lamented the fact that there does not appear to be a single Iraqi judge adequately trained by Western standards. The laws are primitive and contradictory, legacy of Saddam's arbitrary rule. And without a functioning police system, the judiciary is toothless.

. on Monday, October 6 power generation hit 4,518 megawatts-exceeding the prewar average.

Or in other words, it took over six months for the Coalition Provisional Authority to restore power.

.. all 22 universities and 43 technical institutes and colleges are open, as are nearly all primary and secondary schools.

Not that the teachers and professors are being paid. Of course the universities are serving as breeding grounds for anti-American resistance, but the good officer neglects to mention that.

pharmaceutical distribution has gone from essentially nothing to 700 tons in May to a current total of 12,000 tons.

Not that Iraq now has a functioning health care system by any means. Pharmaceutical distribution was nothing in May because a war was on.

6. In other words:
We have fixed some of the stuff we wrecked. Too bad about dead civilians and soldiers, and the trashing international law.

9. How much did all that cost?

There are better ways to spend OUR tax dollars. Especially during a time of deficit. That IS the conservative way, is it not?

There are better ways to spend our soldier's lives. No threat existed, and none has been proven. All of the "good" we have done for Iraq is absolutely meaningless when the primary reason and justification for the war was based on deception and exaggeration.

There are better ways to spend international goodwill, and diplomacy. After the tragic attacks of 9/11, virtually the entire world was behind us. Didn't take Bush long to ruin that. Maybe he can talk to his Dad about building international coalitions.

I could go on, but hey, there's a new school in Baghdad! Yippee!!!

10. in addition, 500 US soldiers killed, several thousand..
injured and disabled soldiers (not reported on)....as many as 10,000 Iraqi civilian deaths and nearly 100 billion dollars spent at the expense of education, health care, and infrastructure reform in THIS country, all based on two lies about an imminent threat from weapons of mass destruction and ties to 9/11 neither of of which existed. Oh, and lets not forget the recent report of thousands of soldiers psychologically wounded that are turning up at veterans hospitals around the country and grief of families who have lost their sons and daughters for a lie. War is a low consciousness solution to any problem.
