Elder Bush nixes Clinton trip idea
Source: CNN

Former President George H.W. Bush has shot down his successor Bill Clinton’s idea of a diplomatic mission under a Hillary Clinton presidency that would send him and other notables abroad to assure other nations that “America is open for business and cooperation again.”

The move came one day after Bill Clinton made the suggestion on the campaign trail in South Carolina, in response to a question from a supporter about his wife’s “number-one priority” upon reaching the White House.

In a statement sent to CNN Tuesday afternoon, former President Bush’s chief of staff Jean Becker said that he “wholeheartedly supports the President of the United States, including his foreign policy. He has never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of hope for freedom and democracy.

“President Bush is excited about several of the excellent Republican candidates running for president, and looks forward to discussing their candidacy once the Republican nominee is determined.”

2. Bill was thinking: Well, I selflessly toured with that old geezer
to raise funds for the Katrina victims and the Tsunami victims.

Surely, the old bastard will go on a goodwill tour with me to get dialog going with some of the people his piece-of-shit son has pissed off for the last 8 years!

After all, all former Presidents should be willing to put their diplomatic foot forward in the good name of our country......

4. I think that Poppy is the father that Bill never had.
Bill is the son that Poppy never had. Jr. isn't what Poppy wanted, that's for sure.

I had a boyfriend once who's Dad ignored him. He developed a very, very close relationship with a father figure in his field. I was behind both career and father figure, so I took a hike.

I think that their experiences in the Presidency only bring out what's there.

8. But could you imagine the cost ... GHWB would demand $50,000 every
time he spoke to a diplomat ... along with the cost of shipping him there with the "entourage" of Secret Service (that Gerald Ford refused to part with)

9. What is wrong with Bill Clinton these days?
He thought he had it "wrapped up" with George the first. Guess his pandering did not work out. Spending all that time with George the first, fishing qnd golfing and travelling the world to get money for tsumami victims. You ass. You just gave him and his criminal son, the upper hand.

Did he really think that George the first, would knife his son in the back? Did he really think that if they went about trying to repair the damage that this father would knife his own son in the back by travilling about apologizing for the sins and evil of his own son?

And Hillary Clinton champions this?

Heh, looks like he got bamboozled by the Bushies. Babs said he was like her son. Err, Bill Clinton, just go somewhere and stop it already with this shit of triangulating and trying to take control once more. You are old. You are sabatoging your wife's campaign in your egotistic quest to get back in the White House. You have made her, once more, look like a subservient woman and she, apparently has no defense against your egotistical attempts to control her sagging campaign. I would respect her more, if she would have divorced him, gone on to win a seat in the Senate on her own. Now it looks like she is just , as always, riding on her husband's coatails.

Lots of people do not want another Bill Clinton presidency. Yet that is what he seems to be pushing. Go back to the nineties, says his dutiful and obedient wife. You know, the era when MY HUSBAND was president. Not me, but HIM.

That is the most recent message.

What a mess Hillary Clinton has made of her campaign. And her husband is compounding that mess by taking over.
there go her talking points of being a "strong" woman.

23. They are a good example of why the 2-term limit is needed.
As George Washington understood, having power changes people. This is not to say that Clinton's goals are corrupted. I think he's still a decent man who wants to build a strong middle class and protect America's real interests. But the way the powerful understand how to achieve their goals is a function of the experiences they have while they are in power talking to and doing business with other powerful people.

If there were no 22nd amendment and no two-term tradition, the Dog would run and he would by god win huge this year. This is why we need term limits on presidents and a healthy rotation in office. Clinton's not a bad person, but he is human.

That the teams these people play for are not as opposing as they wish they were.

And that's being diplomatic.

16. What the Clintons will never understand
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 05:42 AM by JNelson6563
No matter how much they suck up to the BFEE or any of the reich-wingers, the Clintons are and always will be part of the enemy team.  Oh, the right will take a vote here and there for war and such, Sr. will play golf with Bill and all that, but at every opportunity the Clintons will be thrown under the bus. You'd think after all these years the Clintons (who otherwise seem to be rather bright) would get this simple fact.

21. Not just the enemy, but class enemies too!
Back during the Monica-gate foofaraw, I read a very interesting analysis of that affair (for lack of a better word).

It was by a female writer, IIRC, and I thought she hit the nail on the head psychologically.

This was not offered as an excuse or anything, but the writer said it made perfect sense that Clinton and Lewinsky would be attracted.

Both were sitting in the middle of Establishment power, the White House. And of course, Bill was LIVING there.

Yet the two of them came from groups who are absolutely despised by the likes of the Bush Klan--Clinton was a Southerner and Lewinsky was Jewish.

The Bushies are famous for their snobbery. They have a definite idea of Who Should Be Running Things--them. With few exceptions (the Wall Street/DC elites), you can bet that if any white trash or Jews showed up at the Kennebunkport compound, they would be cutting the grass or doing the laundry.

Other thoughts deleted because I have been drinking.

What did Hillary Clinton think when she heard her husband telling people what she was going to do once elected. I bet she was pissed if Bill was making it up on the fly.

19. I knew G.H.W. Bush's head was going to explode when he heard about this trip.
I still find the idea of him going around the world doing an, "I'm sorry my son was such a horrible president" tour hilarious.
