Teenager arrested over '£9.7m computer hacking ring'

A New Zealand teenager was today arrested on suspicion of stealing millions of pounds from bank accounts around the world and of being the ringleader of a hacking network which infiltrated more than 1.3m computers.

The 18-year-old, from Hamilton, North Island, was taken into custody and several computers were seized, said the head of the country's police e-crime unit, Martin Kleintjes.

The teenager was the "head of an international spybot ring that has infiltrated computers around the world with their malicious software", Kleintjes told New Zealand national radio.

The FBI estimates that more than 1m computers have been infected, and puts the combined economic losses at more than $20m (£9.7m).

1. His punishment should be that he be sentenced to work for
Microsoft until he finds a way for their shit to work as well as his own spyware did.

4. This makes me feel so old,
maybe because I remember when kids getting in trouble more often than not involved shoplifting from the 5-and-dime.

Police in New Zealand have questioned a teenager believed to be the ringleader of an international cyber-crime group.

The group is alleged to have infiltrated more than one million computers and skimmed millions of dollars from people's bank accounts.

The teenager, who is 18, cannot be named for legal reasons but was known by an alias as "Akill".

He was detained as part of an FBI crackdown on hi-tech criminals who run botnets - networks of hijacked PCs.

Well, that's a law New Zealand needs to change. This punk is dangerous, and the public should be aware of him in the future.
