Cheney Target of Criminal Investigation
Cheney Target of Criminal Investigation

By David J. Sirota, The Progress Report
January 9, 2004

Though neglected by major media in the United States, international news sources report that French law enforcement authorities have made Vice President Dick Cheney the target of a criminal investigation for his role in a massive bribery scandal during his time as CEO of Halliburton. Le Figaro, one of France's biggest (and most conservative) newspapers, reports "an investigative judge is looking into allegations of corruption during construction of a natural gas complex in Nigeria by Halliburton and" a French oil company. According to a gas and oil trade publication (picked up by the international AP newswire on October 11, 2003) the judge is "looking into who may have benefited from nearly $200 million in potentially illegal commissions allegedly handed out from 1990 to 2002." In May, Halliburton admitted that, under Cheney's stewardship, it paid "$2.4 million in bribes to Nigerian officials to get favorable tax treatment." Halliburton now says it is cooperating with a simultaneous review by the Security and Exchange Commission.

16. You're not kidding.
I'm beginning to think these bastards could kill their wives on national television and get away with it. Wonder how the Pravda puppets would spin that one?

3. While not surprised at all, not sure how French legal jurisdiction
would ever be able to hold his feet to the fire.

10. Agreed.
How would they get get him in a French courtroom?

But it would be great to have him stand trial for just ONE of his misdeeds.

6. This just shows how much more inferior our Justice System is.
We can't even get an investigation here.

Thank you US Supreme Court for handing the checks and balances
over to these chumps in 2000.

I guess they will do to the entire country of France what they did to Joe Wilson. Hmmm....

12. Even if the French never bring Cheney to justice,
merely indicting the son of a bitch could be sweet. Imagine a CONVICTED CROOK campaigning alongside Bush. Imagine all the folks referring to Cheney as a CONVICTED CROOK on this chatboard - and linking to solid references to back up their claims.

14. Well perhaps junior will throw dick to the wolfs,
just to show Americans how he doesn't tolerate crooks like Spiro Agnew.

The repukes do need a man or women to run against Hillary in 08. So it appears that Cheney is history.

17. Alright you Media Wimps
Are you going to tell America about this?

You have disgraced yourselves so far with "benign neglect" and outright propaganda of this Administration.

Don't get me started on all the fluff about Kobe and Jacko...

This is a straight news story, and it is worthy of 10 or more column inches in every newspaper in America. Radio and TV should also acknowledge it.

Are you going to wimp on America and your professional ethics again?

America is waiting.

Invite him to France under the pretext of receiving an award for his role in the war on terror. As soon as he gets to the ceremony slap cuffs on him.

21. Cheney? Our vice president? Chosen by our AWOL commander in chief
president?

Naw--go wan--Bush could not, would not choose such a figure for his vice president, would he? Our appointed president, Bush? Naw go wan.

Why many of his photos show Bush with a holy halo around his head, and Pat Robertson swears he is Jesus incarnated or that at least a god has appointed him a president of this country!! And that makes his stealing of the presidency "right"!

Go wan--Cheney could not do anything so cheap as this because the god incarnated Bush actually "CHOSE" him to be the vice president and god was directing his eenie, minee, moe hand!

How long will American people rely upon this all knowing "god" to dictate to them when it is obvious that this "god" is a vengeful, jealous and vindictive god who is intent upon destroying this country?

So much for "gods"
