22,000 CULLED IN BIRD FLU OUTBREAK (UK turkeys)
Source: Daily Express

WILDFOWL on four more farms in East Anglia are to be culled on suspicion that the birds are infected with deadly birdflu, Defra announced today.

The 5,500 turkeys at Grove Farm in Botisdale, Suffolk are among birds on four farms to be slaughtered as a precautionary measure after Defra assessed that the birds had come into “dangerous contact” with poultry carrying the deadly HN51 strain.

Defra confirmed that whilst the poultry had been exposed to the bird flu virus, there was still no disease detected at the new sites.

The cull has been branded one of “slaughter on suspicion,” and although animal health officials turned up during the night to cull the birds, many of them were already dead.

Police seal off the road to Grove Farm, Botisdale, Suffolk.

RIYADH (AFP)

The lethal H5N1 strain of bird flu has been detected at a poultry farm in Saudi Arabia and 50,000 birds have been culled, the agriculture ministry announced on Wednesday.

It said tests were carried out after 1,500 birds died in a farm of the Al-Kharj region, 150 kilometers (90 miles) south of Riyadh.

DHAKA, 15 November 2007 (IRIN) - Avian flu has re-emerged in Bangladesh after four months, with five reported new outbreaks in poultry farms across the country since October.

The contagious viral disease was first detected in Bangladesh in March 2007. Since then there have been 55 outbreaks in 19 of the country's 64 districts.

To halt a further spread of the virus, more than 250,000 chickens have been culled since the original outbreak.

Same with Indonesia and Vietnam.
