Hollywood unions offer support to writers as negotiations resume

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Major Hollywood unions are lining up behind TV and film writers as last-minute contract talks resume amid fears of a possible strike.

A powerful branch of the Teamsters union has told its 4,500 members they can honor picket lines if TV and film writers strike after their contract expires at midnight tomorrow.

Teamsters Local 399 says in a Web posting that as a union it has a legal obligation to honor its contracts with producers.

But the local, representing truck drivers, casting directors and location managers, says the clause does not apply to individuals, who are protected by federal law from employee retribution if they decide to honor picket lines.

...even if it means nothing but "reality" shows 24/7 on all the networks.

Hell, that might be the best thing to happen. Maybe some of the brain dead will turn off their TVs.
