Al-Jazeera broadcast Monday an audio message purportedly from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden calling on al Qaeda and other groups in Iraq to unify their forces.

Though CNN is not able to confirm that the voice belongs to bin Laden, the Arabic-language broadcaster has aired other tapes of his and the voice sounded like bin Laden's, said CNN Arabic Affairs Senior Editor Octavia Nasr.

20. his dirt nap continues
this bs of "inspiring" his followers with a message of ;
""Don't be arrogant,----"Your enemies are trying to break up the jihadi groups. I urge you all to work in one united group."
""
is really lame.

To bad John Belushi died, he could have kept the "jihadi group' blues band together ;)

OBL and #2 are last years old news

as it doesn't have anything current in it to distinguish it from other previous tapes.

On tape, bin Laden urges Iraq fighters to unite
'Beware of division,' al-Qaida leader tells insurgents

BREAKING NEWS
NBC News and news services
Updated: 9 minutes ago
CAIRO, Egypt - Osama bin Laden called on insurgent groups in Iraq to unify their ranks, in an audio recording aired by Al Jazeera television on Monday.

"Some of you have been lax in one duty, which is to unite your ranks," bin Laden purportedly said in the audiotape. "Beware of division ... The Muslim world is waiting for you to gather under one banner."

The authenticity of the tape could not be immediately be confirmed, but the voice resembled that of bin Laden in previous messages. Al-Jazeera did not say how it obtained the tape.

A senior U.S. intelligence official told NBC News that the general theme of the audio message — unification of insurgent forces in Iraq — was "nothing new" for bin Laden or his deputy, Ayman al Zawahiri. They have called in the past for Sunni groups to stop attacking Shiites and instead focus on the United States.

This breaking news report will be updated.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

23. The Glib Dismissals Ring Hollow...
Every time bin Laden releases a statement, a number of predictable things happen.

One is that the CIA feels compelled to say that the tape could well be real, but they will have to verify the broadcast. This creates a tentativness around initial coverage of the statement. Some days later, each and every time, they will officially announce that it was indeed Bin himself on the video.

Another predictable ritual seems to be a group on DU wandering off into a collective dismissal of any significance being attached to whatever might be the actual content of any purported communication from the world's number one rock star jihadist.

This dismissal is founded on the view that bin Laden was killed long ago, but for some reason, no-one involved -- al Qaeda, the US, etc. -- wants to operate on that assumption. Why al Qaeda would be harmed if bin Ladsen achieved martrydom has never been explained.

All this leads to Bin Laden being seen as an inherent deception, an imaginary construct of Karl Rove. While foul deeds are done, the public is asked to divert itself by dividing itself up into two groups, based on whether they like or dislike Mr. Rove's unreal construct. Hah!

How little attention is paid to what may come down in America if/when another terrorist attack takes place on US soil is one of the great tragedies of 9/12.
