Brownback to drop out of White House race
Sam Brownback, the U.S. senator from Kansas, will drop out of the presidential race on Friday, the AP is reporting.

From the story:

Brownback, a longshot conservative contender, had trouble raising money to compete in the race. He is expected announce his withdrawal in Topeka.

He raised a little more than $800,000 in the third quarter of this year, his lowest quarterly amount since entering race. He has brought in more than $4 million overall and is eligible for $2 million in federal matching funds.

“I know Senator Brownback enjoyed campaigning and meeting new people in talking about ideas for the future of America, but I think it came down to money,” said one person close to Brownback, who requested anonymity because the candidate had not yet announced his plans.

Brownback, who is in his second term, had said in his first Senate campaign he would serve no more than two terms in Senate. He is widely expected to seek the Kansas governor's office in 2010.

21. Didn't they all profess not believing in it? Somehow I remember it from a debate...
Anyway, don't worry, there's more in the shallow end of the gene pool...

23. That always gets me...
They say, "I don't 'believe' in evolution." Even though "belief" has NOTHING to do with it. At one time a majority of the population believed that the earth was flat. That's the problem with beliefs, they can be wrong. That still doesn't preclude people fighting to the death over what they believe in.

contender by default?
Romney could well spend the other half of his personal fortune and still be in the dust. None of the others even come close.

Huck-a-buck is damaged goods, given his insistence on the release of that serial rapist who then went on to rape and murder. Plus he's like Freddie-f-f, sledtrack dumb.

"Lawn order" Freddie-fred-fred is a nobody with no talent and no chance--since he lacks the money and connections that got the current nobody, no talent into office.

McCain is a has-been who never really was.

Ron Paul is a pipsqueak, another nobody, who has had a couple of good ideas in his life, but not enough to advance to the white house on.

The rest of them are intellectual zeros who aren't even qualified for their present positions.

Really the only halfway serious contenders are both serial liars and arrogant pricks--which makes them eminently well qualified as republicans, I suppose.

You've played a leading role in helping America wake up to the lunacy of the religious right! Please keep at it!

11. They've lost three so far, while we've lost one (Vilsack)
I think that says a lot about the strength of our field, that so many of ours are still have at least a long shot, while their's are dropping like flies.

13. Damn! Now Senator "There Two-Thirds the Time" will be in the senate more!
Brownback only shows up for work in the senate two-thirds the time:

As of Sept. 27, Brownback had missed 131 Senate votes during the current Congress, according to washingtonpost.com, which monitors all congressional voting records. That's more than a third of the votes taken. ...

Slate

He'll be in the senate more doing his nefarious deeds.
