San Francisco Supervisors Vote To Condemn Radio Host Michael Savage
Source: NBC 11, San Francisco

October 2, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- All 11 members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to condemn remarks of radio personality Michael Savage against the immigrant community. Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval introduced the resolution condemning Savage.

The resolution creates a formal rebuke of "defamatory language used by radio personality Michael Savage against immigrants," the proposal said. The proposal also reiterated San Francisco's commitment to being a tolerant, respectful city.

Sandoval's resolution was believed to be in response to Savage's July 5 broadcast, when the talker commented on a group of students who had announced they were fasting in support of changes in immigration policy.

"I would say, let them fast until they starve to death," said Savage, "Then that solves the problem."...

The conservative radio talk show host has been on San Francisco airwaves for years. Several years into his run as a radio host, his show became nationally syndicated.

4. This will only give Weiner more ammunition
"Look, the liberal San Francisco pansies are against regular Americans like you and me! Keep listening to my crap!" is what he'll say on the radio in response to this condemnation. His listeners thrive on paranoia and hatred.

5. Savage sucks in the ratings
In San Fran he ranks like 14th in the money demo of Adults 25-54. That's his HOME market. This guy is a non-entity.

6. Would that were true.
It's no suprise that his reich wing views get little traction in the very liberal Bay Area, but he's got the #3 radio show nationwide and four bestselling mini Mein Kampf's in the book stores. Ignoring him won't make him go away.

I still don't understand why he's on the air. This guy says things on his show that are 100 times worse than Imus' ramblings every day, and yet he's carried on hundreds of stations nationwide without any organized protests against his bile.

7. A parenthetical remark at best
History will not mention Savage in its condemnation of the reactionary regime under which we now live.

It's no wonder Savage and his ilk oppose abortion and genetic research--obviously one from the hospital's biotrash bin.

8. In this particular case it is for a good reason, But what is it with lawmakers
censuring media over and over? Both lawmakers and media, but especially lawmakers, should be working to end the huge real crimes being perpetrated on our nation. When individuals say I disapprove of this or that statement, I find that fine and natural, and I even applaud this particular act, but I think it's not really what lawmakers are suppsoed to be doing. SF supervisors should be worrying about elections and the SF Chronical which is pushing hard against debra bowen, and for dres....

15. I called out the Editorial page on their attacks on Bowen
and I told them that if they tried to smear her as they did Shelley, they'd have a fight on their hands this time. They've published my letters many times and they know I'm not kidding. I have no problem taking on these @ssholes and they know it.

I'm glad the Supes did this. Savage deserves to be called on the poison he spews into our culture.

16. He'll wear that
like a "badge of honor". His rhetoric over this will be something like "aww the bed wetting liberals condemned me, I must be egtting it right" or some such nonsense. The best thing to do with a cretin like this is to simply ignore him.
