U.S.: Taliban Inventing Civilian Deaths
Source: CBS/AP

(CBS/AP) The U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan accused Taliban militants Monday of falsely reporting civilian casualties to discredit Afghan and international forces, as 10 insurgents and three NATO soldiers were killed in fresh fighting.

The coalition launched the accusation after Afghan elders alleged that international troops killed up to 18 civilians late Sunday in Helmand province, a Taliban stronghold.

Capt. Vanessa R. Bowman, a coalition spokeswoman, said credible intelligence suggested the claims were fabricated as part of a propaganda war.

"The insurgents continue to follow their pattern of falsely reporting civilian casualties," she said.

2. It's not the Taliban who are reporting the civilian deaths
It's the civilian's families, tribal elders and the local police the U.S. put into office.

I doubt anyone is buying the U.S. propaganda at this point.

Anyone who disagrees with the official tally of the US government is either Taliban or Taliban supporter, by definition.

Just ask the White House.

3. It's very simple, actually.
Just take the numbers they claim, average them against the numbers we claim, and you will come up with a good approximation of the real casualties.
