U.S. soldier killed in fighting in eastern Baghdad, military says

Published: August 6, 2007

BAGHDAD: One U.S. soldier was killed during fighting
in eastern Baghdad, the military said Monday.

The Multi-National Division — Baghdad soldier was killed
and two others were wounded during combat operations
Sunday, according to a statement.

It provided no more details, but eastern Baghdad is
predominantly Shiite and has seen frequent attacks on
American forces by extremists the U.S. military believes
are being armed and trained by Iran. Tehran denies the
allegations.

The death raised to at least 3,669 members of the U.S.
military have died since the Iraq war started in March
2003, according to an Associated Press count.
