Bush pissed over Dem attacks
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_3817.shtml

President Bush cited "angry attacks" by Democrats in a fund-raising appeal to potential donors on Wednesday, while his aides told hundreds of government workers that Bush expects them to remain focused on government business this election year.

"The pace of the presidential campaign is picking up and we will soon know who the Democrat nominee will be," Bush wrote to supporters, asking them for a "special contribution of $100 or $50."

"Whoever wins the nomination will have done so by energizing their party's left wing with angry attacks," Bush wrote.

9. Yes, but...

Angry Attacks
Growing Economy
Safer Homeland

Yes, but hasn't this been the Republican strategy for a while? I mean that's why the public still perceives the Republicans to be the party of "business" and "fiscal responsibility" even though the Nixon and Reagan (and now Bush) administrations brought the deficit spending to levels unseen in American history. And the Republicans are seen as the tough military guys, even though it was Clinton who brought the U.S. military into the 21st century, and it was Democratic presidents who fought the Vietnam war for a decade.

I do think that the Democratic presidential candidate, whoever that may be, must first and foremost return the Democratic party to its roots and bring a message of hope, economic prosperity (as in decent jobs for everyone, not some imaginary stock prices), and equal rights to the American poeple. A campaign based on criticizing Bush would be very difficult to lead against Team Rove whose specialty is political smearing, if Bush's campaign for Texas governor is anything to judge by.

38. The uses of "anger"
It has been Republican strategy, and the Dems have been quite slow to learn from it. The nice guy bipartisan approach has failed spectacularly.

One problem for the GOP -- and it may only be an aesthetic problem -- is how to remain "angry" when you're fully in control of government. We're seeing that they can, in one respect, through war. But domestically, it's harder. Hence the daily security scares; mass fear is the technique augmenting, though not replacing, mass anger.

I don't share your worry about the Dems losing in a smearing battle with Rove. If the Dems play Mr. Nice Guy, of course they will lose. But as we have all noticed about Howard Dean. . .and as some of us are growing to appreciate. . .he ain't so nice. I suspect Dean and his people can dish it just as fast and mean as they get it. He really is a snarling bastard, and that's good. :-)

Further, though I agree in principle with you about returning to roots, I doubt that people are going to flock to the Dems for reasons of hope and prosperity because, alas, the party really has no plan at all -- just rhetoric. Nope: we're in an era of crisis. Dems have no hope of winning the banal suburban middle class vote or the holy roller vote. But they may be able to prise lose Joe Sixpack from the GOP fold by angering and scaring the hell out of him. And given the material to work with, it won't be hard.

The goal is to make working and lower middle class voters see that Bush will cost them their jobs, draft their children, infect their beef, pollute their air, ruin their schools, and bring skyscrapers down on their heads. Portray Bush again and again as a blundering disaster who imperils our very existence. . .and then we might just see him defeated.

Whether the Dems have the balls to do that is up for debate. The past three years suggest no. Soon we'll see.

4. Love the headline!
who remembers "Where's the outrage?" and Bush's attacks on McCain for 'being angry' and 'out of control'?

These guys must realize the attention span has been reduced (by MTV, perhaps?) or maybe they are missing the mark entirely???

Anyhow, yes! I'm VERY pissed!

11. "Bush pissed over Dem attacks"
The only thing that would please
me more is when he starts getting
scared!

He has made this country feel fear
like no other ever could have. His
whole regime thrives on making the
masses feel insecure in lack of
medical care, lack of jobs, lack
of trust in our fellow Americans,
and always using their stupid color
codes to keep people afraid of
terrorism.

Won't it be nice when the polls show
the dem nominee is way ahead of him?

a little black doggie clutch purse under your arm.

Seriously, I thought he'd just raised a $100 gazillion dollars--the largest amount of campaign money ever raised in the history of mankind. I also thought it was something like many times more than all the opposition war chests combined.

Goes to show you--money can't buy you love.

Contrary to popular belief, I don't hate 'Republicans'. (Why, one of my best friends is a Republican.)
I hate what the people currently in power are doing to my country. And I intend to do everything in my power to take them out of power.
The fact that they are Republicans has nothing to do with it.

29. The Dem nominee needs to be on the offensive from Day 1...
...by defining the real issues of the race.

We need to make the race about the hollow economic recovery (as in "where are the @#$%& JOBS, Shrub?"), the stonewalling of the 9/11 commission by the WH, the Plame affair, EPA regulations rollbacks, and the lies that led to the deaths of thousands in an illegal, amoral war.

There's no way the Bush administration can defend themselves against all (hell, or any) of these charges...

39. too bad
It's just the begining of the press attack on the democrats. The mainstream media will work their hardest to paint the democratic nominees as angry, and try to marginalize and trivialize everything they say. The Democrats will be called wackos and liars and if that isn't enough Republicans will try to fix the election. So we should probably make an effort to get out there and work to make sure our votes are actually counted.
