2. AP: Chief Justice Roberts Suffers Seizure
(07-30) 15:55 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure at his summer home in Maine on Monday, causing a fall that resulted in minor scrapes, Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said.

He will remain in a hospital in Maine overnight.

Roberts, 52, was taken by ambulance to the Penobscot Bay Medical Center, where he underwent a "thorough neurological evaluation, which revealed no cause for concern," Arberg said in a statement.

Roberts had a similar episode in 1993, she said.

Roberts Taken to Maine Hospital After Fall
Chief Justice John Roberts has been taken by ambulance to a hospital in Maine after a fall at his summer home on an island.

A spokeswoman at the Supreme Court says the accident occurred this afternoon at the home located on Hupper Island, but she didn't know what injuries he might have suffered.

Roberts was brought to the mainland aboard a private boat and then transferred to an ambulance. The fire chief in the town of St. George says Roberts was awake and alert when he arrived on land.

8. that's scary stuff
something made a popping sound in my head a week ago, and about knocked me completely cold. The pain was awful, like a compounded by a million times kind of ice cream headache. I had to spend the night at the hospital getting tests etc. Anything like that is frightening, and I wish it on nobody. I hope he's alright and everything. Good vibes for a speedy recovery.

I hope you were given a thorough workup, and that you will be seeing a neurologist for followup for a while.

As for Roberts, meh. If he starts having them on a daily basis, that would be news. A one off? Obviously, it hasn't had enough impact on him in the past that he has ever stopped for one moment to consider the difference between good luck and merit.

Your instinct is that something quite wrong has happened, and you should follow your instinct. Calling you "fine" is not a diagnosis. You should at least be told what your symptoms could possibly represent, and what has been definitely ruled out.

I hope it's not life-threatening. Seriously, I don't wish that on anyone.

But I do hope it's "not being able to serve on the court threatening."

Sometimes bad things happen to bad people.

28. Actually, I couldn't care less if he was forced to retire
"because of a medical disaster."

Why?

Simple.

Because he's turned out to be a person he said he wasn't going to be during his confirmation.

He lied to get the job.

And when you buy something that's advertised as "A" and it turns out to be "B," you have a right to return it.

Roberts turned out to be "B" and he's despicable.

Sure, if he has no physical or mental impairment and functions as the husband and father his family knows, then yippee. In that case however I doubt he'd retire.

You know, there are some people I might be persuaded to wish ill or maimed. He's not one of them, he's just another fucking jackass.

21. It's not anything you really want to wish on most anyone
Everyone piled on Pat Robertson, but he did a lifetime of damage.

I just had a family member undergo something akin to a stroke - so I'm acutely aware of the impact it has on a life. John Roberts really hasn't done anything to deserve some of the things that seem to be wished for in this thread. And it may be a temporary seizure, or it could be worse than is reported, but let's try to be just a little more human than our Republican counterparts would be.

36. I certainly don't wish him ill,
nor am I in any position to grant him absolution for our present situation. John Roberts is very much complicit. He drove the bus, so to speak, that was the recount debacle in Florida in 2000; he organized the group of outraged "Florida voters" (who were actually bussed in from a couple thousand miles up the coast) who pounded on the doors to protest the recount. And his was the hand that guided the brief presented to the Supremes on behalf of Bush. John Robert's current employment is his salary for those activities. So there is more than sufficient cause for people to be unhappy that John Roberts will be able to discolor the high court for decades. But I agree that wishing him ill (or worse) is stooping to the kind of behavior that should also be beneath Republicans but isn't.

39. And this....
.... is why Republicans win. We're too nice.

"Oooh lets wish him well. Let's hope for a speedy recovery." BULLSHIT.

I hope the guy has a serious illness that doesn't kill him, but lays him just low enough to linger until we have a Democratic president take office in 09, THEN he can take his well-deserved dirt nap. These people are evil, corrupt, ruthless tools of corporate america and they will stop at nothing to grant their masters all manner of legal goodies via the Supreme Court at the expense of average working americans like me. I hope they get everything coming to them, and moreso.

You wanna win? You gotta be heartless and ruthless. Roberts is a joke as a supreme court justice, let alone chief justice. Frankly, I'd rather see that fat prick Scalia bite the big one, but we're not that lucky. Hey, maybe a bunch of those self-important cretins will die prematurely when the Democratic president takes office in 09.

Just saying what everyone's thinking, or SHOULD be thinking. Remember who the enemy is.

I don't recall the DU Wish a Seizure On Roberts Group being formed, I could be mistaken. But his vile court's first two terms and our Party's complicity in the appointments of Alito and Roberts were not exactly high points in recent history. I would not be unhappy at all if there were no more terms to the Roberts Court.

Roberts had been giving the torturer-in-chief a hard time over those military tribunals. No more, I'd guess.

Incidentally the late chief justice Rhenquist also experienced a very weird medical episode shortly before becoming the complete NeoCon tool. Of course he didn't have far to go.

I wouldn't normally make light of a situation like this, but isn't it ironic that Pat Robertson was praying for God to strike down liberal justices, but since then you've had Rehnquist die and Roberts having a potentially serious seizure/accident.

61. Wow! dansolo, I had forgotten about Robertson's "prayer"
Did Pat Robertson's prayer to strike a Justice miss its mark?

53. Well hope no harm comes of it, but maybe he should consider stepping down. That Chief Justice job
is very demanding.

However, I wonder if he is worried about the medical bills that will follow?

Our karma is so bad it doesn't much matter what we say about a treasonous judge.

76. Stem Cells....
Wouldn't it just be the greatest case of natural poetic "justice" if the cause of these seizures was one of the many things that the republican blocked stem cell research might have a cure for now?

77. Two seizures: Give him what the rest of us get!
Roberts has now had TWO seizures...the one he had in 1993 left him with a suspended driver's license for several months (hopefully this one will too!)

Give him the full deal: Put a diagnosis on record, prescribe anti-seizure drugs, and kick him off the bench as unfit to serve. Let him suffer what the rest of us with epilepsy suffer from: Medication side-effects that make you feel like shit, discrimination, a medical condition that no insurance company will want to cover, and immediate disqualification from a shitload of jobs and careers.

Let him get a taste of the stripped-down Americans with Disabilities Act, since his court ruled that people with epilepsy "aren't disabled enough", and therefore are not entitled to reasonable accomodations on the job! Let Roberts get the discrimination but no accomodations! Just like the rest of us with epilepsy/seizure disorders!

Fuck Justice John Roberts!

Now if everyone will please excuse me, I have to take my next dose of 600 fucking milligrams of fucking Trileptal to control MY fucking seizures because my goddamned insurance company said the surgical procedure that could get me off medication is "experimental" and that they won't pay for it! AND they're 23 days LATE in responding to my appeal! I pay $432.50 per month for coverage when I'm 35 and otherwise healthy but because I have a SEIZURE DISORDER just like JUSTICE ROBERTS, this is the only insurance coverage I can get!

I'm so angry and enraged right now I'm getting a headache! I'm so sick of the "special treatment" these fucking assholes get while people like me have to fight for everything! Assholes!

:grr:  :grr:

Please forgive my foul-mouthed rant...I'm just so frustrated!!!

81. Nothing to forgive...
Your rant would look great on the op-ed pages...though you might need to replace a few expletives. ;-)

Seriously, your post revealed to me things that I was not aware of. I think a lot of people would be interested in your perspective.
Here's hoping your insurance company will come around...

Sorry, a little black humor escapes me on occasion.

Of course I wish the man well. I wish him well, well away from any sort of power over the United States.
