Leahy: Gonzales Must Clarify Statements

By HOPE YEN Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON Jul 29, 2007 (AP)

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales must quickly clarify apparent
contradictions in his testimony about warrantless spying or risk
a possible perjury investigation, the chairman of the Senate
Judiciary Committee said Sunday.

"This is going to have a devastating effect on law enforcement
throughout the country if it's not cleared up," said Sen. Patrick
Leahy, D-Vt.

"If he doesn't correct it, then I think that there are so many
errors in there that the pressure will lead very, very heavily to
whether it's a special prosecutor, a special counsel, efforts
within the Congress."

Leahy also said he was ready to work with the Bush
administration to modernize a law that governs how intelligence
agencies monitor the communications of suspected terrorists.

2. Stop it stop it stop it!!
STOP giving these thugs a chance to "rethink" "remember" or whatever.
Gonzo HAD these chances already.
What chances would *I* be given in a similar situation?
Good Grief already.

3. Leahy should be referring this matter to the House for impeachment
Bush and Gonzo are laughing at the defanged Dems because it was the Dems that decided not to use their biggest weapon in their constitutional arsenal: impeachment.

4. Where's the yawn icon
I am so tired of this shit. I see less and less reason to go to the polls next year with each passing day and next "really, really stern warning"

5. By Law Gonzales has either a week or 10 days to clarify. Leahy is NOT giving him a break here
So please don't suggest that he is. I can't remember if it's a week or 10 days.

7. umm... bush sure wants this FISA change in a hurry:

Democrats have indicated they do not want to rush ahead with any changes, seeking to ensure civil liberties are protected and the executive branch is not granted unfettered surveillance powers. But the Bush administration says its latest request is narrowly drawn and urgently needed to stymie terrorist threats.

"The proposal would make clear that court orders are not necessary to effectively collect foreign intelligence about foreign targets overseas," the national intelligence director, Mike McConnell, wrote congressional leaders Friday. He urged action before Congress departs on a monthlong summer vacation in early August.

9. Wow, where are all the celebrators from the other day talking so tough
about how the impeachment crowd, the ones that have been saying that they're sick of worthless hearings, should be 'eating crow' and apologizing, and all that other sad shit? I posted that it was wait and see time. And now we see. More friggin' hearings.
