Hundreds hear Dean’s stance on mad cow, jobs and health care

GREEN BAY — Presidential hopeful Howard Dean accused President Bush of failing to do enough to protect the country against mad cow disease during an area appearance Monday.
The disease was recently discovered in a Holstein cow in Washington state. During a campaign stop in Green Bay, Dean called the disease by its longer, scientific name.
“Bovine spongiform encephalopathy. I challenge President Bush to pronounce that,” Dean said, speaking at a town-hall style candidate forum sponsored by the state Democratic Party.
Dean said he is the most qualified candidate to tackle the issues of jobs and health care. “I balanced budgets,” Dean said. “I have delivered health insurance to our people. No one else in the race has done any of those things, including George Bush. I understand farm issues. Nobody else comes from a farm state. I understand health issues because I’m a doctor. I know how to get jobs because I was a governor for almost 12 years.”
Dean has a record to run on. If people look at that, they'll see innovative ideas and a sensible, step by step approach to managing health care and balancing the budget.
