Moderators: this is the only text on the NY Times website. The headline is the text, and not all of the headline would fit in the subject line. Thanks.

Not surprised to see a "blame Canada" movement afoot.

2. Yep, blame Canada. AP Story:
Investigators Trace Diseased Cow to Canada
9 minutes ago

By EMILY GERSEMA, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Holstein infected with mad cow disease in Washington state was imported into the United States from Canada about two years ago, federal investigators tentatively concluded Saturday.

Dr. Ron DeHaven, chief veterinarian for the Agriculture Department, said Canadian officials have provided records that indicate the animal was one of a herd of 74 cattle that were shipped from Alberta, Canada, into this country at Eastport, Idaho.

"These animals were all dairy cattle and entered the U.S. only about two or two-and-a-half years ago, so most of them are still likely alive," DeHaven said.

He emphasized that just because the sick cow was a member of that herd, it does not mean that all 74 animals are infected.

4. Could they not be a bit more obvious....................
France has "terrorists", we have "mad cow" , etc., etc. All those who did not join the "coallition of the willing"..........sigh.

For once, I wish Americans would take a long, hard and honest look at THEMSELVES and stop trying to blame the rest of the world (of which they have either limited or no knowledge of) for everything that befalls them.

5. I am not buying this. Who lied about her age when she was sold at
auction? The originally imported, they farmer who bought her at auction, the Canadian that exported her (hardly).

It's again the greedy that falsified her records once she was here in the US. There can be no proof she had the disease coming in, but there are serveral reports that the '97 ban on feeding beef products to beef have been violated here in the US.

I am hoping that the good records from Canada showing her true age will also reveal that she tested negative before exporting.

7. Hi Don Claybrook
In the future, please use the exact article title as the title of your post.

"U.S. Traces Mad Cow Case to Canada"

This helps prevent a lot of confusion in the forum. Thanks.
