Chile prosecutor to say Fujimori should be sent to Peru
07 Jun 2007 12:29:48 GMT

SANTIAGO, June 7 (Reuters) - A Chilean state prosecutor will
recommended that former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori
should be extradited to Peru to face human rights and
corruption charges, judicial sources said on Thursday.

State prosecutor Monica Maldonado will make the non-binding
recommendation in a report she will hand to Judge Orlando
Alvarez later in the day, they said on condition of anonymity.

Alvarez, who is hearing the extradition case, will then rule
whether Fujimori should be sent to Peru. His ruling can be
appealed by either the defense or the prosecution.

1. Peru's Fujimori faces house arrest in Chile
SANTIAGO, June 8 (Reuters) - A Chilean Supreme Court judge ordered former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori to be placed under house arrest on Friday amid fears he might try to flee the country to avoid extradition to Peru.

Judge Urbano Marin said he had taken the decision at the request of the Peruvian government.

"This measure is designed to stop (Fujimori) fleeing," the court said in a statement, adding that Chilean police had been told to arrest the former president immediately.

Fujimori has been detained in Chile since late 2005, awaiting the outcome of his extradition case. Under the terms of his bail, his day-to-day movements are not restricted.

Maybe Montesinos will testify.

I am now indulging in a bit of schadenfreude.

3. This clown keeps pretending he will go to Peru and be re-elected as the President.
Hope Chile can arrange to send him back so he can become the President of his own prison cell, instead, with relatives of his death squad victims to keep him company.
