Pace Says 'Surge' Progress Will Be Evident by September
By Linda D. Kozaryn, American Forces Press Service
May 20, 2007 - 4:17:46 PM

Blackanthem Military News, CHICAGO, Illinois –
By September, military officials will have a pretty good feel for whether the "military part" of the president's surge strategy is working, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Gen. Peter Pace said here today.

Pace spoke to about 1,000 students and alumni at the 55th annual management conference of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Following his address on leadership, Pace answered questions from the audience.

On the surge, Pace explained that four of the five brigades of about 3,000 to 3,500 troops each that the U.S. military is "plussing up" are currently in Iraq. The fifth is in Kuwait and will be in Iraq by the beginning of June.

"From June until September," he said, "we'll have the opportunity to watch the increased U.S. presence on the ground, and the increased Iraqi unit presence on the ground, and the effect that it has on security, primarily in Baghdad."

2. Is there any other part?
We'll know if the "military part" of the surge is working by September. What other part of the surge is there?

3. Ya know, Peter Pace looks like a healthy fellow...
...if he's sooooo confident that the surge will work, AND if he had HALF the guts of General Theodore Roosevelt, Jr, he'd lead his men into this "glorious" battle. Of course, he's too addicted to the DC social life to attempt such a noble act.

Its unbecoming and leads to senility.

4. In September, all Iraqis will be either dead (murdered) or seeking refugee
refugee status outside their country.

BTW, WMDs were EVIDENTly going to be "found" to the North, the East, West, and on the South of Baghdad too...

5. Only if the oil revenue-sharing bill is evident by September.
Edited on Sun May-20-07 06:16 PM by rocknation
Jim Hightower explains it all for you. It's the reason why Cheney appeared before the Iraqi government IN PERSON to tell them NOT to take a two-month vacation. Isn't the work on those permanent miltary bases just about finished, by the way?

7. Uh, Gen. Pace, please call Gen. Petraeus. You guys need to chat.
Pace: By September, military officials will have a pretty good feel for whether the "military part" of the president's surge strategy is working, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Gen. Peter Pace said here today.

Petraeus: Offering another sign that the administration plans to continue its escalation of the war in Iraq into 2008, U.S. commander Gen. David Petraeus now says that he will not have “anything definitive” to say about the war in his September review.

8. Pace has been a parrot of neocon talking points since he was appointed by the Bush mafia.
He has no credibility and is a disgrace to the uniform.

The top ranks have been stuffed with incompetent stooges.

Pace is actually quite intelligent but lost his moral courage a long time ago.

Greed and selfish ambition will do that to a person.

9. And how will we know?...
They (I think Cheney/Bush cui bono? ) have killed just about all the journalists over there who could give us the truth.

In September Lil' Boots will tell us it's better. End of story.

24. We will know by the tone of the October campaign stump speaches
some hope/want it to succeed for political gain
some hope/want failure for political gain

while the Iraqi people are the pawns in this cannon fodder game

All americans should hope, like a lot of Iraqi's, that an acceptable level of order can be obtained in the quicksand box of this 'mission'

17. FUCKING FRIEDMAN UNITS!!!
Thank you media for allowing the admin to keep stringing the people along with the "We will know in 6 months" refrain. This has been repeated since Fall 2003. And will no doubt continue until 20 Jan 2009.

Additonally, 5 of the last 8 months have seen an average of 3 american KIAs per day. This level had not been seen since Fallujah Apr 04 and Nov 04 and the early 2005 Sadr confrontation. Very bad sign.

20. on Sept 1st he'll say he meant the end of September... Pace and the whole bunch are pathetic liers
so the only difference between now and end of June is 3 - 3.5k troops. Most of which will be engaged in searching for missing soldiers by the looks of things. for gods sake, it's long past time to take this out of bush's incompetent bloody hands.

Half of an FU is a screw you, so I guess that's what Pace is really saying.

22. FUBAR
September Song
Maxwell Anderson/Kurt Weill

Well, it's a long, long time
From May to December.
But the days grow short,
When you reach September.
And the autumn weather
Turns the leaves to gray
And I haven't got time
For the waiting game.

And the days dwindle down
To a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days
I spend with you.
These precious days
I spend with you.

23. "From June until September"...I'll save this article for furure reference
four solid months of a projected surge plan is what they predict will pop the pimple on the azz of Iraqi progress.
ok
The clock is ticking, the body count will climb as expected thenat that time it will be up to Iraq's neighbors to decide if the surge worked or the US troops should redeploy out of the sandbox.

... it costs money to fuel the insurgency. This time line represents the commitment and staying power of all sides
inside and outside of Iraq.

28. Four Months
In September, an additional, estimated 250-300 American soldiers will be dead. Probably thousands of Iraqis will have died.

What's a few more months, eh General? </disgusted>
