Commerce Inspector General Broke Whistle-Blower Law, Report Finds
Source: Washington Post

By John Solomon and Joe Stephens
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, May 17, 2007; Page A15

The Commerce Department's inspector general, who is supposed to look into complaints of wrongdoing by government officials, committed "egregious violations" of the federal law that protects whistle-blowers by retaliating against two subordinates, a government investigation has concluded.

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel found that Inspector General Johnnie E. Frazier wrongly demoted the two employees during an investigation of his spending, according to a copy of the report obtained by The Washington Post. It concluded that Frazier's actions violated the Whistleblower Protection Act.

The report recommended that President Bush discipline Frazier and suggested that dismissal may be appropriate.

"Because Mr. Frazier as an IG is charged with ensuring compliance with laws and regulations governing the executive branch, his flouting of such standards in taking this retaliatory action is particularly egregious, as should be his punishment," the report said.

3. This administration oozes corruption from
every pore! We can have hearings every day from now until the next election and nothing will change. They are too entrenched now for anything to happen to them. We all know what wrongs they have committed--the whole country knows it. They can't be ousted by rhetoric which we hear all the time. I want my country back has now become a cliche. I feel most of the blame falls on the media. The secrets they have sat on for years could have brought down this cabal, but the media do not work for us. They have been bought and paid for.

4. My sentiments exactly
Just this morning I told my wife I had to stop reading so much about all these scandals as nothing seems to get done except raise my anger. I keep hoping that they will find the one thing to collapse this cabal, but every day I'm disappointed. Think I'll go read some good science fiction to clear my mind.

6. An Inspector General caught looting. My, my.
Why it's starting to look like the entire administration is treating our government like a fire sale. Loot! Get it while it's hot. Grab 'em while the grabbing's good. They actually think the Looter in Chief will mete our appropriate punishment?
