Kucinich gains support for Cheney impeachment
Edited on Wed May-02-07 03:23 PM by sabra
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer Politics Blog

Two U.S. House Democrats have signed on as co-sponsors to Dennis Kucinich's resolution seeking to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. They are William Lacy Clay, from St. Louis, and Jan Schakowsky, of Chicago. Neither was immediately available to discuss their reasons but their spokesmen confirmed their support for impeachment.

Both Clay and Schakowsky backed earlier efforts by Michigan Democrat John Conyers to look into the impeachment of President Bush, according to Atlanta Progressive News.

Kucinich is in a hearing right now and unavailable for comment. His spokeswoman, Natalie Laber, said Kucinich considers it "a matter of conscience for each individual member" as to whether they will sign on in support of impeaching Cheney. But presumably Kucinich is heartened not to be the lone member of Congress calling for Cheney's ouster.

Clay co-sponsors resolution to impeach Cheney
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Missouri Rep. William Lacy Clay is co-sponsoring a measure that calls for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.

The St. Louis Democrat is one of two House members to sign onto the resolution. The other co-sponsor is Rep. Janice Schakowsky, D-Ill.

The measure was introduced last month by Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who is also waging a long-shot bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. It is not expected to get far, even in a Congress controlled by Democrats.

In a statement, Clay said he agreed to co-sponsor the resolution at the urging of his constituents.

"I believe that Mr. Cheney deliberately manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the Congress of the United States and the American people," Clay said. "The arrogant abuse of power and the complete disregard for the truth needs to stop."

Tell him or her to join these patriotic Congresspeople as a co-sponsor of HR333. And if your Rep is Clay or Schakowsky or Kucinich, call 'em and say thank you!

7. or Call Conyers if your reps are republicans
My Republican reps just said..."Okay". I'm sure that's as far as it went. So I called Pelosi...They said same thing...never even asked my name. At least Conyers and Pelosi asked for our opinion on this matter. Hope their phones are ringing off the hook.

My rep is none other than scandalmatic Feeney of Florida who rigged the voting against his opponent Curtis. I figured there was no reason to EVER waste a call with him on the hate crimes bill or this, but you're right - just to call and make them squirm is fun!

6. Thank You Clay. Others be warned just like vote for war- we remember
So the Democrats don't want to trouble with Impeachment. The entire country has shown EXTREMELY strong support for Impeachment...but our representatives know what's best for us. They had better listen. Our presidential candidates keep talking about what they are gonna do but avoid showing us what they can do NOW. Forget strategy we want justice. This is one of the main reasons we elected you...oversight of the corruption. What they have done to our country is inexcusable and we want them held accountable. Your avoidance of this issue shows us you don't have the stomach for the job. That for political reasons you show the world that these people can get away with it. 9% approval rating should tell you we want him out of office in disgrace for the whole world to get some closure. We won't forget your support or non support on this issue. Clay is from Missouri and it makes me feel good about being a Missourian.

10. Unfortunately...
The people won't be making the important votes here. Too many Chimpy loyalists sit in Congress to make impeachment a viable option. We need a slam dunk of a case to have any glimmer of hope.

BTW, if the legislation goes forward, what are the charges being levied against Darth Cheney?

14. The same Jan Schakowsky who said
"I apologize for not taking seriously enough the allegations that the 2004 election was stolen," she confessed in a speech on June 14th. "After reading Bobby Kennedy's article in Rolling Stone -- 'Was the 2004 Election Stolen?' -- I am convinced that the only answer is yes." Schakowsky promised that the Democrats would move aggressively "to ward off a repeat performance."

21. Two? That's it?
If this was anything more than a publicity stunt then he would have had far more Democrats lined up before his press conference. I'm sure it will still help him raise money and get a little publicity, even if it goes nowhere in Congress with his two co-sponsors.

30. Bush IS the problem
While Cheney may have unduly influence Bush, it is the PRESIDENT has ultimate responsibility for allowing his administration to trample the Constitution, Lie to the American People/World resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and the wounding of scores more, and all the while, helping his 'friends' (in high corporate/donor places) to make BILLIONS through fraud and corruption, as a result.

Have the nads to impeach Bush or both ...

32. how it could be
Send the bill back, as is. Funding for troops on the ground is good, by Pentagon and dingleberry's own admission, for some time (a few months). Go with Murtha's short term appropriations and dare shitheels to veto that (havoc on an actual budget, but I don't really give a flying fuck about budget right now, I mean, really!), impeachment gains momentum, give them the bum's rush and retake our govt from the radical terrorists they are. Fuck em.

After Dems rolled over so quickly on the Iraq timetable, it's easy to see why this measure won't get far.

Thank you, Reps. Kucinich, Schakowsky, and Clay, for doing your job.
