Lampson tops Rove's hit list for 2008 election
Federal probe looks into presentation that targets Dems

By SUZANNE GAMBOA
Associated Press

Nick Lampson replaced former Majority
Leader Tom DeLay in the House.
CHRIS GREENBERG: AP

WASHINGTON — The political slide shows that landed President Bush's adviser Karl Rove in the middle of an investigation named the congressman who replaced former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay as the White House's No. 1 target.

Rep. Nick Lampson, D-Beaumont, tops the list of the "2008 House Targets: Top 20," part of a presentation made to executive branch employees, possibly illegally. Rep. Ciro Rodriguez, D-San Antonio, also was on the list at No. 12.

Critics have alleged the presentation was political and violated laws restricting executive branch employees from using their jobs for political activity.

The White House has defended the presentations as informational briefings for appointees and acknowledged last week there have been briefings at several agencies.

5. Congratulations Nick!
For being #1 on a Rove list. If this Anti-Administration dislikes you THAT much, all I can ask is, "Have you thought about a presidential run?"

6. Lampson will challenge Cornyn for the Senate
It's pretty much an open secret in Houston that Lampson is going to roll the dice and go after Senator Box Turtle next year.

7. Damn I hope so...
traveled from Tx all the way to DC with a group to meet with Cronyn's aid (I would stand a better chance of seeing God). Well, we got stood up for our APPOINTMENT. We took some funny pictures at his office and promised to help his opponent unset him in any way we can. He thinks he is still a Judge and not the 'peoples' Representative. Cornyn is such a fuck wad.

13. Governor in 2010.
White is a CEO-type, and doesn't fancy to the clubby Senate atmosphere. He also wants to be President someday, and Senators don't get elected to the White House (mostly).

This is also pretty solid.

11. That explains why Cornyn has elevated his fundraising efforts
I knew he wasn't popular and that polls showed an alarming number of people willing to vote for a generic Democrat in the race. But this, this brings it all together!

I really hope Lampson takes the leap.

12. Wasn't Senator Paul Wellstone at the top of Rove's hit list right
before he was killed?

Rep. Lampson may want to hire a bodyguard and not do any air travel for awhile.

getting even more desperate..to witness; the totally freakshow behavior of karl rover at the correspondent's dinner when Sheryl Crow and Laurie David approached him about our Environment.

15. We're ahead of them.
I am finally feeling optimistic. We're talking 2008. We're talking the future rather than the past. I guess you could say we're being preemptive.

Impeach.

19. Regardless of how many things Rove has done to compromise national security over the years...
I assume you're referring to CIA leak.

It's only treason when somebody interferes with a Republican campaign contributor's ability to profit. Loyalty to country means shit.

20. Sekula-Gibbs is running again
I happen to know a good friend of Shelley Sekula-Gibbs who told me last week she'll be running again for this seat. The Repubs just cannot STAND that Delay's old seat went to a Dem. This woman actually was telling me how Delay was set up by a rogue prosecutor and that "they never found anything on him, nothing!" Then she starts telling me how when Sekula Gibbs won the special election and was in Washington for 2 months, that she was sabotaged when all Delay's files were deleted before her arrival, and somehow this was the doing of the new Dem leadership. I could barely keep from bursting out laughing.

23. Rove's paid by US taxpayers for doing hatchet jobs on Dem. candidates.
This should be coming out of the RNCs coffers, not out of the pockets of the American taxpayer.

On the plus side,Rove's little bag of tricks, once possessed of such strong mojo, seems to have just about run its course.

Lampson beating Cornyn? It's a real possibility and God knows we Texas Dems could use a victory of this magnitude.Didn't think Barbara Ann Radnofsky had much of a shot against Hutchinson, although she was far and away the superior candidate.

Cornyn is a hack and a dullard with zero charisma.Nick Lampson could make it most interesting.
