Iran cracks down on offbeat Western hairdos
Source: Herald Sun

TEHRAN barbers are to stop offering Iranian men unconventional Western hairstyles amid a nationwide crackdown on dressing deemed to be unIslamic, the Etemad newspaper reported today.

The paper quoted the head of the Tehran barbers' association as saying police had issued a directive forbidding its members from giving men offbeat hairstyles that are all the rage in more affluent parts of the capital.

“Currently some salons use Western grooming methods to create styles that are in line with the European and American ones,” said the association's head, Mohammad Eftekhari-Fard.

“The union has repeatedly announced the restrictions against unconventional grooming when issuing permits to each of the barber shops. Hence barbers, knowing these rules, should not pursue the wrong methods.”

3. Freedom Fries here, Haircuts there
It's geography, that's all, and if it keeps a people occupied and oblivious to the real failings of their leaders, mission is accomplished, eh?

Our evolutionary abilities are to blame on this, when one has the attention span of a gypsy moth to the flame of ridiculous machinations like this, (and of course, that tableau is evident here in this country, look to the Capitol hill commisary for the French fry change four years ago), then as the yiddish saying goes, "You get what you get".

Haircuts be damned, the Iranians have a lot more to worry about than just the stylistic leanings of their barbers, just as "Danish" was renamed "the Islamic Rose" post the cartoon faux pax of Denmark, and our own clowns have banished certain words from the vocabulary, it highly unlikely that a diplomatic breakdown on whether to razor cut or blunt cut will have a considerable impact on the very REAL problems there,

The Iranians are Persians, that mindset has never changed, and their temporary allegiance to the Kurds and others is extremely laughable, just as our own temporary allegiance to the Pakistanis is laughable.

I am glad you posted this, it released a muse,, of discontent.

Regards
Pace

7. This is repression...
For the mere sake of repression, and it is these small, niggling edicts that do more to erode authority and the general mood of the people than the big, sweeping ones. This will be felt hardest by the young and the world-aware. This will create brooding resentments. This is the sort of thing that pushes buttons that the mullahs might not want to be pushing.

9. "Freedom fries" was never the law.
No citations were written for "French fries". The two things are qualitatively different.

A plurality--maybe a majority--of Iranians are Persians. The Iranian Arabs, Balochis, Azeris, Kurds, etc., are not Persians. And there is a small independence movement among each ethnicity.

6. Ah, great, a war of old farts against everybody under 30
There is already tremendous pressure there to secularize from the majority of Persians. This crackdown is not going to work.

Every time Stupid opens his big, fat, stupid mouth he gives the mullahs more power. Fear mongering always gives oppressive governments more power and he's their greatest friend.

At least the religious lunatics are now oppressing both sexes.

10. Many of the Basij and Rev Guards are under 30.
They're often the ones most given to zealotry, and least willing to show tolerance of things they disapprove of.

14. Just like the Cultural Revolution under Mao.
The under-30's are the best enforcers.

17. Crack down on off beat hair styles ?
Reminds me of the rules at my strict English grammar school back in the early 1970s. The teachers at that institution were more zealous in the pursuit of 'unconventional grooming' than any mullah.
