British soldier is killed in Iraq

A soldier has been killed while out on a patrol in southern
Iraq, the Ministry of Defence have confirmed.

The soldier, from the 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's
Regiment, was patrolling in the Al Ashar district of central
Basra.

He was providing protection for a Warrior armoured vehicle
when he was killed by small arms fire.

This latest death brings the total number of UK troops killed
in operations in Iraq to 145.

Prince Harry is prime militia target in Iraq

London (ANTARA News) - Iraqi militia groups have drawn up detailed plans to seize English Prince Harry as a hostage when he arrives in the region next month, the British Observer newspaper reported on Sunday.

According to the paper, paramilitary groups claimed they had informants in British military barracks in Iraq monitoring the 22-year-old Prince.

Militia leaders said photographs of Harry had already been disseminated among insurgent groups in the area where the prince would be deployed, The Observer reported.

The claims come amid public criticism that the British Ministry of Defence should not have allowed Prince Harry to serve in Iraq because he would be seen as a high-profile target.

Yet, despite the criticism, government officials have no intention of making the prince stay at home. ...
