ABC News obtains Palfrey's records-Phone lists given 'unconditionally'

A Vallejo woman indicted for allegedly running a prostitution ring in the nation's capital has turned over phone records of thousands of clients to ABC News as part of an interview that is to air next month, her civil attorney said Monday.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 50, was interviewed by ABC News several weeks ago, the network confirmed Monday. The network did not pay Palfrey for the interview, which is to run on "20/20" beginning May 4, according to ABC News and Palfrey's attorney, Montgomery Blair Sibley.

Palfrey has hinted that well-known people in Washington were among her clients from 1993 to 2006, but has not named any. Asked whether ABC News could identify former clients, Sibley said, "Records were turned over unconditionally to them. They're going to do what they're going to do. Who knows?"

Palfrey's business records include 46 pounds of phone bills of some 15,000 clients of her business, Pamela Martin and Associates, Sibley said. Palfrey originally threatened to sell those records to pay for her defense, but a judge barred her from doing so.

Why turn these records over to ABC? It's not that ABC has been the pinnacle of journalistic integrity of late, so why this move? It seems the records should have been turned over to a government-watchdog group (if there are so many DCers on the list), to determine if anyone was co-opted for their "transgressions."

I don't know about the wisdom of giving these records to a network which has gone out of its way to run interference for Bush. I can see some "selective reporting" going on here: slam some Dems (if there are any) but ignore the Repub names...

I mean was ABC the only network in the bidding for this info? I don't trust the Sinclair Broadcast Group, and haven't watched anything on ABC/Disney since they aired "Path to 911" to try & influence the outcome of an election.
