Honda threatens hearings if he's not satisfied with probe
Robert Collier, Chronicle Staff Writer

Sunday, March 25, 2007

Angered by the leak of partial results of a Pentagon probe into the friendly fire death of former NFL star Pat Tillman, Rep. Mike Honda, the Democrat who represents Tillman's former San Jose district, threatened Saturday to call for congressional hearings on the issue.

~snip~

"I am dismayed that the family of Army Ranger Pat Tillman was not afforded the opportunity to review the results of the investigation into his death prior to their public release," Honda said in a statement. "The Tillmans have been subjected to great sorrow beginning with Pat's death and over the course of a deeply flawed and possibly dishonest series of prior investigations."

The final report by the Defense Department inspector general -- begun 18 months ago at the urging of the Tillmans, Honda and other members of Congress -- is scheduled to be released Monday.

But late Friday, the Pentagon leaked partial results to several news organizations in Washington, which reported that the probe found that nine officers, including as many as four generals, were at fault for mishandling information after Tillman's death. However, the probe also determined there was no orchestrated cover-up, according to the Associated Press.

1. So nine officers, incl. 4 generals, individually just 'knew what to do'.
I'm not saying it isn't true. I'm saying, if it is true, they didn't need to conspire because the culture of burying the truth must be simply that deeply ingrained that it comes naturally to servicemembers. That's as damning an indictment as I can come up with. But, being a jerk isn't illegal in and of itself...

2. Why do republicons have to lie to America all the time?
Why can't republicons tell the truth to our soldiers, to their parents, and the citizens of the nation?

Do they see the death of one of our soldiers as just an
opportunity for propaganda?

Why are republicons completely lacking in honor?

4. Tillman's parents suffered MORE because of republicon lies
about how he died. If the republicons would stop LYING about Tillman
and other soldiers, the parents would at least have the truth to deal with.

as for Congressional Hearings into Tillman's death: Bring 'em on.

The people of the United States have a right to know how Commander AWOL
and the republicon crony War Profiteers are using our dead soldiers
as subjects of LYING propaganda.

5. Paths of Glory
When I hear or read about how despicable the Army treated this incident, I am reminded of the great antiwar movie from the 50s called Paths of Glory.
For years, Paths of Glory could not be shown in France.

14. We were talking about that film a few months ago
I tuned in in the middle of the film one day and I was transfixed. Kirk Douglas was the class of that era of film making. Spartacus, Brave Cowboy....:)

16. Why I made the comparision is in both instances,
people do evil, or at least less than right, for what is believed to be the good of the Army.

8. He hasn't cast a vote yet that I've disagreed with
Patriot Act, Iraq War resolution, all Nay votes. I couldn't ask for a better rep. I'm glad he's standing up for Pat Tillman's family since our government doesn't seem to give two shits about them.

10. Sounds like conspiracy theory junk.
Nine officers and four generals? Someone would have said something, so this is impossible. Is sfgate.com the new prisonplanet.com? I know for a fact that Mr. Tillman died after gunning down 24 Al Qaeda #2s and his last words were "do not pray for me; pray for Mr. Bush, glory be upon him. Godspeed, friends, godspeed."

...

K, sorry.

Pentagon to blame 9 officers in Tillman case: CBS
Reuters
Friday, March 23, 2007; 10:08 PM
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon's inspector general will blame nine U.S. Army officers, including up to four generals, for missteps after the April 2004 death in Afghanistan by friendly fire of former NFL star Pat Tillman, the "CBS Evening News" reported on Friday.

It said the Pentagon would release its findings on Monday, showing the officers failed to follow regulations and used poor judgment in keeping the truth of the cause of Tillman's death from his family for more than a month.

11. Friday news dump....typical rovian trick: leak the news on
Friday and hope it goes away over the weekend when no one is watching. I watched the story and it is clear that they covered up the truth to try and make a big rah-rah pro-war public relations splash. Too bad it was friendly fire and the needless loss of that fine, brave man.
