Senate: Airport screeners can unionize By LESLIE MILLER, Associated Press Writer
3 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Senate voted Tuesday to give 45,000 airport screeners the same union rights as border patrol, customs and immigration agents, despite a veto threat from the White House.

The 51-46 vote was on an amendment by Sen. Jim DeMint (news, bio, voting record), R-S.C., to remove the union rights from a broad anti-terrorism bill to implement recommendations of the 9/11 commission previously rejected by Congress.

The House passed a similar anti-terrorism bill with the same union provision for airport screeners in an indication of organized labor's strength with Democrats now running Congress.

Republicans vowed to strike the union provision when negotiators sit down to merge the House and Senate bills together to implement recommendations of the 9/11 commission previously rejected by Congress.

3. No
There was an article a few days ago that said 36 Senate Republicans would not override, so Bush will veto. I say, let them veto! Show the country what truly malignant scum you really are, and make sure those 36 Repubs are well known and on the record as caring more about abolishing unions than protecting our country!

5. that's what I was thinking
Same goes for the Employee Free Choice Act. A Bush veto puts him and his party on record as anti-worker. It makes it harder for them to hide behind whatever their bullshit flavor of the month is.

4. the TSA should be abolished
But as long as it's around, TSA workers should be allowed to exercise their right to organize.

6. Looks like a straight party line vote

With Johnson abstaining for obvious reasons. I'm glad my moderate Republican Senator Specter joined the Dems on this one.

Still it's a bit close for comfort. Let's strengthen our hold on the Senate next election.

10. YES!
Let it be known that the pResident VETOES living wages.

Let it be known that Democrats attempt, in unison, at
EVERY TURN, to represent the WORKING PEOPLE of our
country, and that the Republicans DENY the PEOPLE wages
that keep up with the cost of living.

The *astards are telling the American people that we
"went along" with chimpy's war, because some of our
more cynical representatives decided it was easier to
vote yes. BIG MISTAKE. It allows them to claim (and
they ARE claiming it) that "congress WANTED IT".

We need to fight these goons EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
