U.S. clashes with China, Russia in debate over space weapons
8:04 a.m. February 13, 2007

GENEVA – The United States clashed with China and Russia during a disarmament debate Tuesday over how to prevent an arms race in outer space, and Washington criticized Beijing for its recent test of an anti-satellite missile.

Russia and China, in turn, condemned the “one state” that refuses to consider a treaty banning space weapons – a reference to the U.S.

--snip--

Despite the test, Beijing joined Moscow on Tuesday in renewing their five-year-old initiative to establish an international accord against weapons deployment in outer space. They maintain that Washington's developing anti-missile systems could set off a new arms race.

“The notion that introducing weapons and the threat of force into outer space could be a sustainable way of securing strategic advantage and legitimate defense objectives is fundamentally flawed,” they said in a working paper distributed to delegations.

China and Russia said attempts to have global military dominance by the use of space “are counterproductive and jeopardize the security of all humanity.”

1. Predictable
The rest of the world has been worried for years that the Star Wars system wasn't about global security but was really just a way for the US to have the option of striking first without retaliation. That may well be why China wants an anti-satellite missile in the first place and given the gung-ho lunatic currently in the Oval Office, I can see their point.

4. "I can see their point."
I suspect that voicing that kind of opinion will soon be considered, and punished as treason, there so close to the heart of the Empire.

6. It would take a lot of work
One of the nice things about being British is that treason is very, very narowwly defined and mostly centered on the monarch rather than Parliament. Since I'm still loyal to Her Majesty, there's not a great deal they can do.

3. The defense industry is sucking America dry
They maintain that Washington's developing anti-missile systems could set off a new arms race.

Money. They could care less about the country's welfare, the country they claim to be defending. Blood suckers. They should cancel wll the Star Wars programs and pay for Veterans's care.
