Oaxaca Living a State of Siege
Oaxaca Living a State of Siege

Mexico, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican state of Oaxaca is living today a real state of siege, denounced one of the opposition leaders in that southern region of the country.

The President of the November 25 Liberation Committee, Mexican painter Francisco Toledo, assured that the situation is taking place despite interference from governor Ulises Ruiz.

Even when Ruiz declared that the situation has returned to normalcy and the environment was favorable Toledo warned that the capital is still taken by the police, which had set up a military style control post demanding documents from passers-by.

The artist said the Ruiz media campaign media is an unnecessary expense while he highlighted that Oaxaca authorities have committed several violations of individual guarantees.

He emphasized that the right to private freedom has been violated with hundreds of arbitrary arrests, excessive use of force with inhuman and humiliating treatment, physical aggression, torture and serious injury.

The right to a rightful penal process has also been infringed while denying the people under arrest the guarantee to be judge by an independent, unbiased and competent court, and they also violated childrens rights by arresting at least four of them.

The Oaxaca Teachers Union will held a meeting in the region of Mixteca to determine actions to face alleged attempts to reduce the teachers influence in the social movement.
