Duo of Democrats say they will try to unseat Sununu
The votes won't be counted for another 21 months, but two Democrats have already said they are candidates to take on Republican Sen. John E. Sununu in November 2008.

Democratic activist Katrina Swett of Bow yesterday filed the necessary paperwork in Washington to set up a campaign committee allowing her to begin to raise money.

Portsmouth Mayor Steve Marchand said he expects to make a similar filing before the end of this week. He said publicly a week ago that he had decided to run. Swett disclosed last weekend that she was "98 percent in."

Other Democrats actively considering running against Sununu are Stonyfield Farm chief executive Gary Hirshberg of Concord and state Sen. David Gottesman of Nashua. Hirshberg said this week he intends to decide by mid-February, while Gottesman has not talked about a specific timetable.

Jeanne Shaheen hasn't ruled out another run either.

2. He did not win
His margin was very small, just a few hundred. So I am happy to see that there are Dems running, a whole pack of them. Although he does have the luxury of being the incumbent. Allard from CO. is not running again, maybe we pick up Sinunus seat too. We can then dump Lieberman, not give him any Chair positions, especially that of Home Land Security. With the votes that the Dems are bringing up, I think the Republicans are making it harder for themselves. There are 21 of them this next time around, and I would like to see all of them fall, minimum half.

3. Also coleman, Smith (OR), Voinovich, are defending in blue states
The 111th should be a very blue one. If we also have a Dem president, the ship MIGHT just get turned around in time.

6. Voinovich isn't up until 2010
And I'm not prepared to describe Ohio as a blue state (yet). Smith (OR), Coleman (MN), and Sununu (NH) I think are most vulnerable, and I suspect we have good chances in possibly open seats in CO, NM, and VA.

4. Great news
The bad news is that I am sure Arnold is planning to challenge Boxer in California. I think he'd win if the the election were held today. What can we in CA do to prevent this happening?

5. I rather doubt it
I don't think his ego would let him- if he wins he's what? The junior senator from the State of California? Subordinate to a whole passel of doughy old men, and second banana to Dianne Feinstein? The man needs to be the center of attention, and there's no way he can be as a senator.

My guess is he'll try to eek a few more movies out of his career, and try to keep telling himself he's an intellectual and a powerful man by doing some appearances as a political commentator and writing a book. Once he gives up movies, maybe try for an ambassadorship to someplace prestigious but low on actual work. Normally a fellow of his sort (insecure and yet outwardly bursting with ego) would trade the wife in on a younger model pretty soon, but he's too enamored of the idea of bedding a Kennedy to do that.

7. Boxer isn't up until 2010
And I don't think (I may be wrong though) that Arnold's term-limited, so I think he'd probably run again or retire rather than challenge Boxer in '10.

8. He is term limited
He won't be facing the voters out here in CA again, at least not as governor. He has drifted to the center and the Repubs out here are asking him to leave the party. I wonder what he is up to?
