Two US soldiers killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Another two US soldiers have been killed in Iraq, according the US military.

One soldier was killed and four others were wounded on Saturday when a bomb exploded southeast of Baghdad, targeting a combat patrol searching for "suspected terrorists," the military said.

The second soldier was killed when another bomb hit a patrol southwest of the capital on the same day.

"As they conducted their mission, a roadside bomb exploded near one of their vehicles, killing one soldier," the military said.

The latest deaths bring the number of US fatalities in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion to 2,962, according to an AFP count based on Pentagon figures. In December alone, at least 79 have died.
