Familes of 9-11 victims seek Moussaoui evidence


RICHMOND, Va. The Richmond federal appeals court heard arguments today on whether some families of the Nine-Eleven victims should be given evidence from the trial of al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui for civil lawsuits.

District Judge Leonie Brinkema (LAY'-eh-nee BRINK'-eh-mah) of Alexandria has ordered the government to give the plaintiffs non-sensitive information that prosecutors turned over to Moussaoui's attorneys, but which was never used at his trial.

Justice Department lawyer Steven Lane urged a three-judge panel of the Fourth U-S Circuit Court of Appeals today to overturn that ruling.

The victims' families are suing parts of the airline industry and those alleged to have financed the terror group that hijacked airplanes and crashed them on September 11th, 2001.

1. I hope they can get into Moussaoui's computer and find out what Nick

Berg's name and email account/password were doing in there.

This is one of the weirder things that went by everybody in the news reports of Nick Berg's beheading. He had been previously questioned by the FBI when, after 9/11, they finally got into Moussaoui's computer, and found this connection to Berg in it--according to his father. Story was Nick told them he just met Moussaoui by accident on a bus going to a college class and loaned this stranger his computer. (This was the computer Colleen Rowley was trying to get into, prior to 9/11). The Bushites then later permitted Nick to enter Iraq and wander around looking for business for his small telecommunications company. He was picked up U.S. forces in Iraq, held for ten days--during which his parents petitioned Donald Rumsfeld to release him--then he was dumped back onto the streets, in the midst of the Fallujah uprising, and was supposedly kidnapped by Al Qaeda and beheaded by Zarqawi in the famous video.

I thought Berg's Dad Michael's reaction to the Bushite bombing of Zarqawi's home was interesting. The reporter tried to get a vengeful reaction out of him, with a question like, "Are you happy they got your son's killer?," and he answered, "I am never happy when any human being is killed."
