Kelly (FINALLY) says Hall won and concedes (NY 19)
Katonah — Confronted by a margin that a recount was unlikely to surmount, Rep. Sue Kelly begrudgingly loosed her 12-year grip on New York's 19th Congressional District yesterday.

"John Hall has won," the six-term Republican said in a news release after lawyers for both sides met in court to review the result of last week's election. "I congratulate him and wish him well as he endeavors to serve our nation and the people of the Hudson Valley."

It was an anticlimatic end to a congressional career that began in the GOP landslide of 1994, when Kelly, who lives in Katonah, ascended to office as one of Newt Gingrich's Republican revolutionaries.

Kelly had been trailing her Democratic opponent by at least 3,000 votes since election night. But, with more than 8,000 paper ballots remaining, she had refused to concede.

4. it took Sue Kelly this long to accept that the voters . . .
actually preferred a "rock star" (as she called John Hall in her mailings) to her . . . I wouldn't be surprised if she tries for the Republican nomination in 2008 . . .

I'm absolutely thrilled that John is now my Congressman-elect . . . the last time my town was represented by a Democrat was around 1972 . . . and I worked on that campaign . . . :)

10. But wasn't that seat already called for Hall?
The race is not on any 'yet to be determined' list of which I am aware.

Anyway. Congratulations. Hall seems like he will be a great representative.

His record of having Congresspeople on his show who won or kept their seats in '06 is still perfect!

8. Favorite guilty-pleasure election night post:

"OK, WHY won't the cow concede?"

Meanwhile, I can now say that a genuine U.S. Congressman played at my college's Spring Fling in 1982, and as if that's not weird enough, a local Hawaiian group has covered "Still the One"! I heard it on the cable guide channel just last night. :eyes:
