Afghan conflict deaths quadruple
There has been a four-fold rise this year in the number of people killed in the conflict in Afghanistan, according to a report on the insurgency.

It suggests that more than 3,700 people have died so far this year - about 1,000 of them civilians.

The report came as Afghan officials said Nato and Afghan troops had killed about 60 Taleban fighters in a six-day operation near the Pakistan border.
...
It says more than 3,700 people had been killed since January this year and that the frequency of insurgent or terrorist-related security incidents had now risen four-fold to 600 a month.

6. Truly another forgotten war, like the Korean War.
I can't forget those pitiful villagers that were killed, bombed out of their humble homes. Bombing the hell out of Afghanistan didn't help anyone.

4. Afghanistan has defeated so many Western powers
It's generally considered impossible to win a guerilla war - and that's what it is - on foreign
soil, and Afghanistan is very difficult terrain.

The Afghan people certainly haven't benefitted - the women in particular are just as badly off as
they were under the Taliban, except for Kabul, and even that's not guaranteed.

Negotiation seems to be the only way to achieve anything - how you negotiate with either Taliban or
the war lords I don't know, but everybody wants something, so there must be a way of ensuring a
better life for the people.

8. send them blair
I'm sure he and his cabinet can explain to the taliban why he's pursued a mass murder policy
against the local civilians.
