Work shouldn't be hard to find for Rumsfeld
Defense chief is likely to be in demand: `This guy could do anything'
By Susan Chandler
Tribune staff reporter
Published November 12, 2006

Departing U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld may be leaving behind a legacy of discord and failure at the Pentagon and in Iraq. But that doesn't mean he won't be highly sought after as a board member or maybe even a corporate executive, say headhunters who have tracked his career.

"He has a great business background and a great government background. As long as Nancy Pelosi isn't the lead director, I think he would be a real prize for any board," said Greg Crecos, who heads Chicago search firm Gregory Michaels & Associates. Pelosi is the California Democrat who is the presumptive next speaker of the House.

Rumsfeld is a marquee name, but his age--74--may work against him. Many publicly traded companies have set a retirement age of 70 for directors and 65 for chief executives. But those rules are not hard and fast, and plenty of firms allow directors to stay on past retirement age.

So the march of progress continues. Justice is served. And like the Lone Ranger, Rummy doesn't hang around afterwards to soak up the acclaim for the "heck of a job" he did, but rather moves on, seamlessly into the night, his work completed, his worries few, his brow unfurrowed. What known unknowns will our hero face next in the continuing saga of... "Don Rumsfield: American Fuckup"!!

3. Hey, he can come work for me . . .
It's fall and I've got a whole yard full of leaves. He can get cracking on 'em.
Provided he:
1. has a stategy for exiting the leaves from my yard
2. brings the equipment necesssary for the job
3. his rake has enough tines in it
4. doesn't stop to look for open arms and flowers in my yard

Come to think of it, I'd rather have the 12 year-old from down the street.

Still. . . there's the matter of mucking out my septic tank.

22. Any pharmaceutical...
... looking to push a a dangerous, neurotoxic, carcinogenic
and highly-addictive drug, I mean artificial sweetener, would
love to have him I'm sure.

I hope that somewhere in the cosmos there is a bookkeeper
keeping track of just how lives that man is responsible for
snuffing out in one way or another.

30. The best work for Rumsfeld would be Hard Labor.
If Saddam has to swing, it seems like the principles of consistency would rate the same fate for Rummy. He planned and executed an illegal war that killed hundreds of thousands.
