The Courier-Journal
A poll worker at the United Auto Workers hall on Fern Valley Road was arrested after he was accused of assaulting a voter, said Lt. Col. Carl Yates, a spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriffs’ Office.
The worker, whose name has not been released, has been charged with interfering with an election and fourth-degree assault, said Yates, who had not other details.
Paula McCraney, a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Clerk, said the poll worker was accused of choking and pushing the voter out of the door. Election officials called the police and when an officer arrived, the voter wanted to file charges, McCraney said.
“That about tops off the day,” McCraney said.
...Yeah! I guess that would!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A poll worker in south Louisville was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with assault and interfering with an election.
Jeffery Steitz, 42, of Louisville allegedly grabbed a voter by the neck after a dispute over the ballot, said Lt. Col. Carl Yates of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
The dispute started at about 9:30 a.m EST at a UAW hall serving as a polling place. The voter told Steitz he did not want to vote in a judicial election because he didn't know enough about the candidates, Yates said. Steitz told the voter he had to vote in the race, Yates said.
The dispute escalated with Steitz grabbing the voter by the neck and throwing him out of the polling place, Yates said.
"The poor guy went back in and he threw him out again," Yates said. "At least it wasn't over a Democrat or a Republican being on the ballot."
Paula McCraney, a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Clerk, said election officials called police and when an officer arrived, the voter wanted to file charges.
"That about tops off the day," McCraney said.
A call to Steitz's home was not immediately returned.
It was one of a few problems reported around the state with polling places as the future is decided for candidates for about 4,000 elected positions around Kentucky.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ken Taylor said federal prosecutors in eastern Kentucky hadn't received any complaints yet about voter fraud, but federal investigators were looking into an allegation of voter intimidation.
Taylor said it had to do with a challenger shooting photos of voters, but he wouldn't say where. He said the complainants were concerned that the presence of the challenger was keeping voters away from the polls.
"It's a violation of federal law to deprive a person of his right to vote through intimidation," Taylor said.
