Russia, China won't back Iran sanctions
Nov. 2, 2006
By STEVE GUTTERMAN and EDITH M. LEDERER Associated Press Writers

MOSCOW — Russian and China indicated that they will not support a draft U.N. resolution imposing tough sanctions on Iran for its refusal to halt its nuclear enrichment program.

The comments by Russia's foreign minister and China's U.N. ambassador were the strongest reactions yet to the draft by the two key U.N. Security Council members, and signaled difficult negotiations ahead on the resolution drawn up by Britain, France and Germany.

"We cannot support measures that in essence are aimed at isolating Iran from the outside world, including isolating people who are called upon to conduct negotiations on the nuclear program," the Interfax news agency quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as saying Wednesday.

1. Gosh, George, I guess you'll have to use some of your political clout
to put some pressure on Russia and China, eh?

Oh...I forgot...YOU DON'T HAVE ANY POLITICAL CLOUT! What a mess you've created in the world, little man.

3. Jerusalem Post: "The UN and EU are irrelevant"
Nov. 1, 2006 21:16 | Updated Nov. 2, 2006 10:54
The UN and EU are irrelevant
By DANIEL PIPES

...the situation has become crude and binary: Either the US government deploys force to prevent Teheran from acquiring nukes, or Teheran acquires them.

...The critical moment will arrive when the president of the United States confronts the choice whether or not to permit the Islamic Republic of Iran to acquire the bomb.

...But when it comes to the fateful decision of going to war, the American apparatus of participation fades away, leaving the president on his own to make this difficult call, driven by his temperament, inspired by his vision, surrounded only by a close circle of advisers, insulated from the vicissitudes of politics. His decision will be so intensely personal, which way he will go depends mostly on his character and psychology.

...Until the US president decides, everything amounts to a mere rearranging of deck chairs on the Titanic, acts of futility and of little relevance.

7. !!!!!!!
Saying that they are trying to get nuclear weapons is a lie right off of the bat since the intention is to get to Iran's natural resources.

Two white people are trying to rob a brown person.

9. nuclear weapons...yeah...right
The nuclear plant is for ECONOMIC purposes. Not that I even care if they has nuclear weapons since every nation is going to have to proliferate in order to stave off invasion.

12. My answer
Using the plant for power and reducing as much of the oil dependency within the country as possible. Also reducing oil production in order to keep the oil prices up so that everybody else's war machine would be slowed or stopped altogether.

6. Iran could limit IAEA contacts in case of a tough resolution
TEHRAN, November 1 (RIA Novosti) - Iran said Wednesday it could limit its cooperation with the United Nations' nuclear watchdog if the UN Security Council adopts a tough resolution against the Islamic Republic.

...Tehran says it needs the nuclear program for civilian ends.

..."We are thinking over response measures if the UN Security Council adopts a resolution against Iran. If it is tough, a reaction will follow," said Hassan Rowhani, Iran's former chief negotiator and representative of the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in Iran's Security Council. "Perhaps, limiting cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency will be one of our responses."

16. FACT is, Iran under the NNPT has the "inalienable right"
to persue nuclear enrichment for economic purposes.

And until and unless it's proven they're doing otherwise, the UN cannot sanction Iran for doing what they have an "inalienable right" to do.
