Democratic poll watchers outnumber Republican oberservers

By JAMES MILLER
Staff Writer

In the 2006 election, watchful eyes in Volusia County have a distinctive color -- Democratic blue.

Whether getting out the vote, guarding against trouble at the polls or -- as some Republicans say -- simply not getting over disastrous defeats in 2000 and 2004, Democratic poll watchers outnumber their Republican counterparts in Volusia County somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 to 1.

Volusia will have more Democratic poll watchers during early voting and on Election Day than much-larger Orange County will have altogether, and Flagler County will have none at all, according to records from those counties.

"Whoever gets out the vote will win," said Phil Giorno, chairman of the Volusia County Democratic Executive Committee. "That is our plan so we've lined up a lot of people to work on that plan."

1. Well, when you've had the past two Presidential elections........
stolen from you, you tend to get a little protective of your vote. All Democrats want is a fair election where everyone's vote counts. We don't want to unduly influence or skew the results, we want a fair and untampered with result and we're willing to oversee every movement of Republicans on election day to see that through. If that makes the Republicans a tad nervous, too --king bad. They have good reason to be nervous. They've stolen the past two elections unfettered but now people are watching them. Closely. The Republican always cringes at the mere thought of oversight, knowing that they can't win in a fair election.

2. Republicans have Karl Rove to watch and fix it for them
The Democrats need to try and keep that from happening. Since we don't own Diebold, we have to have extra eyes.

3. K&R
This news rules--if our politicians won't have the spine to protect our votes, then it's up to We The People!
