Istook aide may be victim in page scandal (McVeigh's lawyer, Foley's page)
http://www.newsok.com/article/2951137/

A former U.S. House page working on the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Rep. Ernest Istook may be a part of the scandal involving former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, The Oklahoman has learned.

The former page, a Californian named Jordan Edmund, 21, on Wednesday hired Enid attorney Stephen Jones to represent him, the attorney confirmed.

Jones would not say exactly why he was hired, but did say, “I understand the FBI and the House Ethics committee have an interest in the matter ... the allegations concerning Congressman Foley which have surfaced.”

...

Jones, who represented Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh in his murder trial in Denver, confirmed Edmund was a U.S. House page.

1. I must be missing something here...
If he's a victim, why would he hire a criminal lawyer?

7. And I agree with you.
The hounds are out looking for anything to deflect blame.

An attorney with experience in high profile government crap is not a bad idea at all.

5. This thing just gets more bizarre by the minute.
I need to go to sleep, but I'm afraid I'll miss major developments while I snooze. By the time I wake up, we'll probably find out Laura has been diddling the female pages.

13. McVeigh connection
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 11:18 AM by marshall
Being touted as the "attorney for Timothy McVeigh" must be a mixed blessing. On the one hand it does get his name out there and for somebody looking for a good attorney in a local matter. But for a case like this that draws national attention what client wants to be known as the guy who has the same lawyer as McVeigh?

14. Seems weird. But this kid does not seem like a dummy. He's a Berkley
student or at least was. Maybe he craves attention or is just really dumb. Maybe drugs are involved or maybe he facilitated sexual liasons with others and has personal criminal exposure, who know? It could be anything.

8. Because he's a victim of a crime
You wouldn't hire a divorce law for a case like this?

10. After reading Jones' book about the McVeigh case,he seems a perfect choice
There was a lot of government underhandedness, especially by the FBI, in that case so Jones is aware of what he is up against. I would make the same choice.
