Nine U.S. soldiers killed in attacks around Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq Nine U.S. soldiers have died in recent attacks in and around Baghdad, the U.S. command said Tuesday.

Four were killed in different areas of Baghdad on Monday in separate small-arms fire attacks, the military said. Another four were killed the same day in a roadside bomb attack on their patrol northwest of Baghdad at 6 p.m. (1500 GMT)

The ninth died Sunday when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb west of the capital.

No further details were released and the soldiers' names were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Two U.S. soldiers killed in Afghan clash

KABUL (Reuters) - Two U.S. soldiers and an Afghan soldier were killed in a clash with insurgents in the eastern Afghan province of Kunar, the U.S.-led coalition force said on Tuesday.

Three U.S. soldiers were also wounded in the fighting late on Monday in the province's Pech district.

Violence has surged in the Afghan east and south this year to its most intense since U.S.-led forces ousted the hard-line Taliban five years ago, weeks after the September 11 attacks.

2. "Commander" George AWOL Bush should hang his head in shame
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 06:13 AM by SpiralHawk
He lied to America so he could send our sons and daughters to Iraq, and open up the pspigot for massive profits for his republicon oil cronies. Disgusting.

Our sons and daughters in uniform are dying for the lies of George AWOL Bush, Dick "Five Deferments Cheney" and Rush "Anal Cyst" Limbaugh -- a pack of chickenhawk liars.

5. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Kissinger, Powell et al...
God has reserved a special place in hell for your hateful, lying, psycopathic pack of scum. I'd say may God have mercy on your souls, but I don't think in your case you'll find any.

RIP to nine more of our youth and condolences to their grieving families.

14. Actually, it's 14 in Iraq in the last three days
None of these count the three Marines killed in al-Anbar province on October first or the two marines killed in al-Anbar province yesterday. Nine plus five =14.

Good start for the month. :eyes:

30. 74 Dead in September +5 Coalition Members
September was 2nd highest this year, only April with 76 was deadlier. Remember last spring "When Iraqis Stand Up, We'll Stand Down" and how they planned to reduce troop strength in the fall in time for '06 elections? Ha!

I have a bad feeling that October will be a record breaker.

would start paying attention and realizing that the continued support of keeping the troops in Iraq is just a Death March for our troops.....

17. Sort 'em out and pile 'em high in the proper pile

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Iraq and Afghanistan
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Kabal and Baghdad

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

21. Mmmmm...
I think maybe it is regarded that being killed whilst pro-activly going looking for trouble garners less sympathy than just sitting around minding ones own business.

I think maybe these deaths happened on Operation Together Forward, the attempt to take back Baghdad.

the second week of August is mentioned as the stating date here but maybe things are still going on:

22. Woodward's statement about attacks increasing
As Americans try to survive, concurrently the successful tactics must escalate in a climate of chaos. It is hard to see these obvious predictions coming true thanks to the courageous work of the US media, sometimes risking their lives waiting, waiting for some decent positive news to report that they could inflate to the full dimension of their ego's potentials.

As the Bush mad machine, formerly known as America, cycles more and more victims into the shooting gallery, bothering those trying to conduct a decent civil war, it must be hard in the mess for the terrorists to weave through and do their training and their piecemeal destruction of the US military, offered up as despised victims by the AWOL chickensh&t because he prefers toys and private thugs.

So much Bush has done out of spite which I think is sold short in an otherwise unsympathetic psychological profile granted to the British public, whose soldiers also have died, not just because Cheney pulled strings but because the puppet- heart and soul- was willing to let loose this catastrophe to hurt people who constantly reject and despise the Bushes.

The nominal president of the US but actual fraud, dictator and traitor to everything he pretends to stand for has no rational guidance for any policy outcome. All those seeking gain from him are caught in a paroxysm of smirking chaos and naked incompetence. Supreme indifference. Every Conservative that got in the way of the Bush dream anywhere, the American voter, the nutcase Christians he mocks with his drunken lapses and constant lies dragging them down into a moral abyss any Christian not overheated by power and lust could name, the flag that mocks his betrayal and cowardice, his father's policies that humiliated the family in defeat, real businessmen whose success mocks his incompetence, people who feel and people who believe because he can do neither- all these and more surrender their flawed souls to the whimsy of this pathetic self-made little g god, who accepts the loathing of himself and hurls it back upon the world because all the doofuses in the world gave it to him. Little Boots.

He enjoys one-upping people he believes better than himself and tries desperately to surround himself with people worse than himself- or at best more incompetent. That means you too, Mr. Grey Eminence Cheney. And the not so well equipped and funded Texas Guard that Bush merrily pushed into Iraq, they too as a reminder of his failure need death and humiliation before his awesome and petty power. it is all a policy of spite. Were it simple aggrandizement or earning the respect and love of the people there would have been quite a different route. But he demonizes everyone and chooses "friends" simply to protect himself

All, all, various objects of revenge, some that cannot be named except in the smirk into the pillow at night. This is the fire that fuels the man. His safer mood is pious fantasy and frivolous disdain for details.

There will be war and more war NOT because PNAC, Trilateral Commissions or the Cheney gang wish it so, but because Bush, the nero, Caligula and Anti-President, Anti-American of our times wills it so. And how many have failed the best, from the worst and closest of his accomplices to the inertia and fear of the best.

He likes to groove in the rubble. He wants revenge on his enemies and finally knowing it is the whole world and that he has betrayed and tricked even his closest co-conspirators he finally has some peace in finally knowing it is everyone.

Anyone who allows who allows Mr. Nuclear Button finger to strum the violin of violence one minute offers one minute grace to the devil indeed. While all the corruption of the people whose power he has supposedly enabled takes them down in stunned protest we avert our eyes still from the greatest danger, as ever. A rogue autocrat with hidden hate and a drunk's vertigo toward disaster.

And the only real power anyone has is the system of beliefs, of knotted submission to a simple abstraction. Congress rips up the Social Contract, then madly rips up itself. To say we can do better than this is the grossest understatement.

The vote in November that the masses and the players stumble toward while Bush pushes his toy soldiers to another war is to overthrow tyranny. Because too many people yet cannot think this way or talk this way does not mean it will not happen. It will be the madman against the world- and one of them is playing by careful polite rules fearfully disappearing right and left in order to give the simpleton maniac a sporting and "respectful" chance to "win". By destroying everything.

News can't speak, can't think can't research, can't contain exploding stories- the real mushroom WMD of truth and the flowers of evil. Leaders can't speak, can't think, can't act and look incredibly for someone to take them by the hand and work some miracles that rotten legislation has made nearly impossible over decades. Because a little dysfunctional child is in charge and it is all so enervating.

(Hey, if I am going to be spirited away, I'd like it to be for something with style. Will Pitt can't have all the glory.)

34. You're right, they don't love their own deaths
But they seem to love watching others die. They sit back and watch the poverty draft in the U.S. (increasingly Canada too) die, as well as innocent civilians worldwide. And we can't forget torture - they have a real lust for that too.

35. That's how the latest Canadians in Afghanistan were killed too
"The soldiers were involved in a road construction project 20 kilometres west of Kandahar around 4:50 p.m. when they came under attack from a handful of insurgents armed with rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles."

http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2006/10/03/nato-killed.html

This must be meaningful to someone who knows about military matters - exhaustion, lack of resources for force protection?
