Washington - Presidential candidate Howard Dean is on pace for a kind of Triple Crown in the early air wars of the 2004 election.

He has run the most ads of any of the nine Democrats in the field.

He has waged the most wide-ranging TV campaign, advertising in more states - nine - than his competitors.

And he is the biggest TV spender in the vital opening battleground of Iowa, which is easily the biggest ad venue of the campaign.

These are among the findings of a to be released today that provides the first comprehensive portrait of the presidential race on television.

1. dean is campaigning in non-primary states

Dean is campaigning in states that wont be decisive for the nomination, but are vital swing states in the general election. Almost all of the money from the other candidates is being spent in iowa or NH, with a little in a couple super tuesday states. Dean is simply the strongest candidate. You can't beat bush by spending all your time campaigning in two states, no matter how important they are in securing the nomination.

2. Um, there's an exception here called OHIO

No onsite visits from Dean (outside of a few private fundraisers) or ANY of the Dem candidates (besides Kucinich who HAS to be here.

Ohio Dean supporters beg for campaign materials to no avail. We are printing or buying our own.

I've been a Dean supporter and will continue to be one. But we are also getting VERY tired of printing our own stuff, not having the boost of a big visit, and being generally ignored. Especially when we get treated to the bi-weekly Bush/Cheney visit.

I'm also getting goddamsickandtired of being told how important Ohio is, when actions do not matche it.

3. I'm getting SO tired of Bush/Cheney's Ohio visits too, eileen!

It's postively depressing. It seems like one of the two rolls into Cincinnati every other week, collecting a phatty sack of campaign donations before rolling back out.

I hope that after NH and IA are over, our candidates will spend a little time in our state, which is absolutely in play for the general election... especially considering Bush's decision about the steel tariffs.

I'm getting impatient, too... :-(
