MCN International Pte LtdUS Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and retired US general Tommy Franks were "no-shows" at an Iraqi court held at the weekend to hear a case of the deaths of 17 Iraqis in the recent war.
An Iraqi shepherd is holding the top US military leaders responsible for a bombing that killed 17 members of his family in April this year. ---
"I took all of my family to a tent in the desert just to keep them away from any dangers from the war. When all of my family was inside the tent, two missiles hit the tent at which time all of my family members were killed and two of my cars were destroyed and 200 of my sheep were killed and my brother and I were injured," said the elderly shepherd.
The plaintiff's lawyer says the case will go ahead according to Iraqi law, even if the Americans never participate in the hearings.
The next hearing has been set for August 10.
