U.S. Forces Kill or Seize Top Saddam Aide-Politicians
By Adnan Hadi
KIRKUK, Iraq (Reuters) - Izzat Ibrahim, right-hand man to Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) and the next most wanted Iraqi leader, has been killed or captured in a U.S. raid near the city of Kirkuk, Iraqi Governing Council sources said on Tuesday.

"There was a major action against a highly suspicious objective last night in Kirkuk and it is very possible that Izzat Ibrahim has been captured or killed," said one member of the Council, Mowaffaq al-Rubaie, adding he had been in contact with U.S. forces.

Another high-level source in the U.S.-appointed Council said he had been informed that Ibrahim had been captured in the raid.

Local government officials in Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, said the town was abuzz with talk that Ibrahim had been captured. Local police said he had been found in a raid in the town of Hawija, west of Kirkuk. <snip>

2. They are checking with Rummy as to how this guy could best be used
and spun for the propaganda. Does Rummy want him reported as killed, or would it be best to report him as captured for future reports of him leading them to Saddam as a bonus. Can't you read the headline - High official verifies Saddam is dead under intense interrogation.

4. That's the guy whose wife & daughter they disappeared for "interrogation"

in order to put "pressure" on him. That same day, they failed to prevent the press from reporting that they had "interrogated" another guy to death. We may never know what they did to this man, or his family.

5. BBC link (No confrimation of capture at 14:15 GMT)
From the BBC Online
Dated Tuesday December 2 14:15 GMT (6:15 am PST)

US raid "targets Saddam deputy"

US forces raided a northern Iraqi town near Kirkuk overnight, possibly in search of a top Saddam Hussein deputy.
The target seems to have been Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, the highest ranking regime official still at large other than Saddam Hussein himself.
A member of Iraq's governing council told the BBC he had been captured, but there has been no confirmation.
The BBC's Nick Childs at the Pentagon says officials there could not verify the story, but did not deny it either.
He says one official said he was "sceptical" about the report.

The link will update as details warrant.

7. Killed or captured?
That's convenient. What do you bet we captured him (using his wife and daughter as bait) and now intend to "interrogate" the hell out of him. If by some chance, he doesn't survive the "interrogation", well, the media will report that he wasn't captured after all, he was killed in the original action against the "suspicious objective."

U.S. Denies Reports Top Aide of Saddam Captured
12 minutes ago

KIRKUK, Iraq (Reuters) - The U.S. military denied reports that Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, the most wanted man in Iraq after Saddam Hussein, had been captured in a raid on Tuesday.

"He was definitely not captured in today's mission," Major Doug Vincent of the 173rd Airborne Brigade told reporters who accompanied troops on the raid in Hawija, near Kirkuk.

Earlier, several high-level sources in Iraq's Governing Council said they had been informed that Ibrahim was killed or captured in the operation, which began early on Tuesday and was still going on in the evening. <snip>

11. Moslem fundamentalists cheer
Think how much they'll cheer if we kill or capture Saddam. Then no one will stand in their way once we're driven out.

Not that any of that will matter to the American public, who will hear nothing from the U.S. media about the post-Saddam disaster in Iraq once our forces are no longer there.
