DeNure wants to be Wisconsin's Lamont
WAUSAU, Wis. - There's a Democrat in western Wisconsin who wants to be his state's Ned Lamont — trying to kick a fellow Democrat out of Congress for being too supportive of the Iraq war.

But there's a big difference. Unlike Lamont in Connecticut, Chip DeNure of La Crosse is no millionaire, and he acknowledges that his bid to oust five-term U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (news, bio, voting record) and make the Sept. 12 primary race a referendum on U.S. policy in Iraq is a long shot.

But someone had to do it, given that keeping U.S. troops in Iraq beyond next summer is "totally insane," the 57-year-old state probation officer said Wednesday.

"If Chip DeNure, who has run for local office five times and never has won, if somehow a miracle could happen and he could defeat a five-term incumbent on the issue of the war in Iraq, what a message that sends to the entire political establishment," DeNure said in a telephone interview from his home.

3. I'm in the "district" and DeNure is not Lamont
First, DeNure may be opposed to the war but he has several other issues that make him an implausible Democratic candidate - like the fact that he's not pro-choice.

Second, Ron Kind was one of the first who had voted for the war to come forward and retract his support of it, calling his vote for it wrong and based on bad information supplied by the feds. He's still a DLCer, but he's adamantly pro-choice and can be shamed into voting left of center on a regular basis.

Kind's not perfect, but I'll take him over DeNure any day.

2. He's not the only one
There's Jennifer Lawless in Rhode Island, the woman behind those langevinequalslieberman ads you may have seen around here.

Phil Dunklebarger who wants to unseat Stephen Lynch, the lone Shrub-lover in MA.:

And of course, some of you already know about Hong Tran, the Washington Senate candidate who refused to be bought off by Maria Cantwell:
