Ohio jobless rate increases(Ohio5,000 Michigan28,000 last month)
Ohio and Kentucky, along with Michigan were among the six states registering the biggest job losses in July, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as the Midwest reported the highest unemployment rate last month.

Ohio lost 5,000 jobs over the month, and Kentucky lost 5,100. But Michigan, dependent on manufacturing of automobiles and related products, lost 28,600 jobs between June and July.

While Michigan has the largest employment decrease for June, that largest employment increase was registered by Illinois, which gained 29,800 jobs.

Results for Ohio and neighboring states are:

* Ohio's jobless rate rose to 5.8 percent from 5.1 percent between June and July, but fell slightly from 5.9 percent in July 2005.
* Kentucky's unemployment rate jumped to 6.3 percent from 5.8 percent over the month, up slightly from 6.2 percent in July 2005.
* Indiana's jobless rate was 5.7 percent in July, compared to 5.2 percent in June and 5.5 percent in July of last year.

What goes up must come down
Spinnin' wheel got to go 'round
Talkin' 'bout your troubles it's a cryin' sin
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel spin

You got no money and you got no home
Spinnin' wheel all alone
Talkin' 'bout your troubles and you never learn
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel turn

7. Well not good for Granholm
I am in Michigan and the state is in absolutely terrible shape. She is dead on arrival in my opinion. I do not want Devos to win, but I don't think there is anything at all positive for Granholm to run on. She hasn't accomplished a single thing.

9. She's done a lot of smaller things.
We all need to be working harder to get her re-elected. DeVos is flat-out evil, and he'll destroy this state worse than Engler did.

She did do one thing: she got my brother's company to move here from Ohio. He tried to get Ohio to help him out at all, with zero luck. It took some calls to the state offices here, but he finally got through, got some good help on taxes and all, and now he's in the process of opening up the plant.

Google? She helped with getting them here. The new bio-tech corridor on the west side of the state? Hers. Balanced budgets without raising taxes? Hers.

Keep in mind, she's had a Republican congress working against her every single step of the way. Every good idea she's had, they've done everything they can to destroy, and every time they've beaten her back, they've blamed it on her.

11. Great post!
Thanks, Knitter- You're exactly right. Gov. Granholm has been having to fight for every inch to repair the damage done by Engler. As President Clinton stated in his support speech last week, it took him 7 years to turn Arkansas' economy around. These things don't happen overnight, but Granholm has been doing everything she can to create jobs and keep businesses in Michigan, much unlike her opponent Dick DeVos.

14. He even outsources his ad campaign.
It's was made by a Maryland company. He's cut over a thousand jobs from Amway and outsourced all that to China. He's no friend to Michigan.

17. She saved the state from bankruptcy without raising taxes
or massive layoffs of state employees, although Engler had already decimated the work force with an early retirement program.

Before he left office, Engler gave away the state's rainy day fund in tax breaks for all of his corporate friends. The day Granholm took office, the state was in the red.

I think once the whole truth about DeVos and the China outsourcing is known, Granholm will prevail. But it's going to be close, state-wide elections in Michigan usually are tight.

8. This Republican candidate understands Ohio's economy
Tell everyone you know about her. She's the one who trashed Terry Anderson. It's time to take revenge.

First, it turns out that the candidate widely endorsed to succeed Ney - and supported not only by the embattled congressman but also by the Ohio Republican Party - is more than $1 million in personal and business debt, along with her husband. The federal government may have to pick up some of that because of a Small Business Administration loan guarantee.

Joy Padgett's debt, and the personal bankruptcy she and her husband, Donald, filed on June 15, promise to rise as a campaign issue as her party promotes fiscal responsibility.

Their U.S. Bankruptcy Court filings list $1.16 million in debts against $202,143 in assets.

"To default on an SBA loan, and her million-dollar bankruptcy, show that she cannot control her borrowing or her spending," said James B. Harris, another Republican seeking Ney's seat.
