Indians tell cola giants to reveal all
The Supreme Court ordered the US soft-drinks maker, along with its rival, PepsiCo, to supply details of the chemical composition and ingredients of their products after a study released last week claimed they contained unacceptable levels of insecticides.

. . .

The court order followed the release of a report by the Centre for Science and Environment, a non-government body, that said 11 brands sold by the two soft-drinks makers contained high levels of pesticide residues.

The centre said samples from 12 states showed that Pepsi products contained 30 times more pesticides than in 2003, when a similar study was conducted. Coke samples had 25 times the amount of pesticides as three years ago.

The report caused a row in India's lower house of parliament, where MPs from across the political spectrum called for a ban on the sale of Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

"These companies are playing with the lives of millions and we can't ignore such warnings any more," said Vijay Kumar Malhotra, from the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, which walked out over the issue.

1. Hope this triggers worldwide testing of these products.
Was it from the local water used? The testing in India was done by a non-government body. What testing is done, and by whom, on the colas marketed in the US?

3. Yet ANOTHER use for Coca-Cola? Will miracles never cease?
Not only can it quench your thirst and remove rust, but it can also kill common garden pests?

Is there ANYTHING that this remarkable substance can't do?

"It's a soft drink! It's a metal polisher! It's a pesticide!"

Hey, anyone ever try pouring it into your gas tank? Worth a try, don't you think?

(um...just kidding...don't try that...you'll seize your engine up...)

8. We stopped drinking all artificial soda products
two years ago...no more week long headaches, PLUS, even though we drank DIET.

Now, we do occasionally use seltzer in other drinks, but we mostly went back to organic milk, all natural 100% fruit juice (with no HFCS, many times I make it fresh myself)) and tea (iced and hot), with some organic chocolate thrown into the milk on occasion, and plain old pure water. Hubby and I both dropped a clothing size each doing this simple thing.

Let me tell you what pop (soda or Coke for youse not from Ohio) did to my teeth. DIET pop. Enamel? HAH - bout gone (for those of you of an age to remember taking tetracycline when young a lot, combine heavy soda pop use and you have a dental DISASTER waiting).

I fear for the generation of kids that consumed pop like water throughout their youth.
